Manchester City are on the verge of sealing the deal to sign Henry Oware, who was a target for Barcelona and Arsenal.

According to a report from Daily Mail, Manchester City are closing in on the capture of Henry Oware. The Ghanaian super-talent has a deal in place to sign with the Premier League giants, who are expected to pay around €1 million for his services.

Currently plying his trade with West Africa Football Academy in the Ghanaian top-flight, Oware was courted by a host of European clubs, including Barcelona and Arsenal. But it is Manchester City who are expected to secure his services in the summer, though the youngster is set to be loaned out to sister club Troyes next season.

A centre-back by trade, Oware has earned rave reviews for his performances in the Ghanaian Premier League. His defensive work ethic, coupled with his immense potential, made him one of the most in-demand young players in the country, with the youngster now set for a move to Europe.

The addition of someone like Oware could have been an ideal solution for a team like Barcelona, who are facing a battle to keep hold of Ronald Araujo. They are also expected to offload multiple unwanted defensive stars, including Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet, who is a target for Newcastle United.

Arsenal, too, could have been an excellent destination for the 18-year-old. The Gunners have developed quite a lot of young talents in the recent past, and Mikel Arteta’s setup could have suited the youngster really well. The player may have also had the opportunity to play with national team hero Thomas Partey.

However, it seems Oware is set to become a part of the Manchester City setup. He will join Troyes on a season-long loan deal next season in order to garner experience at the highest level of football before returning to Etihad in an attempt to prove himself under Pep Guardiola.

The Manchester City academy has produced a host of attacking talents in recent years. But a defensive prospect like Henry Oware could certainly be a welcome addition, ultimately strengthening the team’s base going into the future.
