PSG defender Achraf Hakimi is keen on following his teammate Kylian Mbappe and securing a switch to Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid in the summer.

According to Spanish publication Defensa Central, Paris Saint-Germain right-back Achraf Hakimi dreams of securing a return to former club Real Madrid as he is unsettled at the French capital outfit.

Hakimi came through the ranks at Real Madrid and made his first-team breakthrough in 2017. However, he could not nail down a place for himself under Zinedine Zidane and was shipped out on a two-year loan spell to Borussia Dortmund in 2018. The Moroccan full-back thrived in the Bundesliga and made the most of his two seasons with the Black and Yellows.

However, after he returned to Real Madrid, Los Blancos decided to offload him to Inter Milan immediately. Hakimi thrived in Italy again, playing a key role in the Nerazzurri’s Serie A title triumph in 2020/21. But the club’s difficult financial situation meant that they had to sell him last summer as the right-back secured a big-money move to PSG.

Having arrived at the French capital club in a deal worth over €60 million, Hakimi has had a mixed campaign. While he has shown signs of his undisputed quality, the former Real Madrid ace has not performed consistently enough – an issue that has plagued the entire PSG squad this season, leading to their elimination from the UEFA Champions League.

The report states that Hakimi is not entirely settled at Parc des Princes where several groups have been formed within the squad, and the atmosphere in the dressing room is not very healthy. As a result, Hakimi is now dreaming about returning to his boyhood club Real Madrid, who are poised to sign his PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe.

Indeed, the 23-year-old French superstar is believed to be on his way to the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season when his contract runs down. An agreement over a Bosman move is already in place between Real Madrid and Mbappe, and now Hakimi wants to follow his teammate and best friend in the PSG camp back to Spain.

Real Madrid are in the market for a new right-back who can replace Dani Carvajal in the long run. The Spaniard has struggled with fitness problems over the past couple of seasons and has shown signs of age catching up with him. So, a long-term heir is needed at the Bernabeu, with Hakimi among the options being considered.

Now, the 23-year-old himself wants to return to Real Madrid. However, he is aware that a move will be difficult to achieve as the relations between the two clubs are strained due to Los Blancos’ pursuit of Mbappe. So, it remains to be seen if Hakimi does return to his boyhood club or stays put and fights it out at PSG.
