Leeds United are reportedly among several clubs interested in signing Barcelona winger Francisco Trincao, who is currently on loan at Wolves.
According to Fichajes, Leeds United are considering the possibility of making a swoop for Barcelona and Portugal winger Francisco Trincao in the upcoming transfer window.
Trincao signed for Barcelona in the summer of 2020 from boyhood club SC Braga. However, the 22-year-old endured a difficult debut campaign in Catalonia as then-manager Ronald Koeman hardly used him. While he featured 42 times in all competitions for Barcelona, only three of those were starts in La Liga.
Given his reduced stature within the squad, Trincao left the Blaugrana in the summer transfer window last year to sign for Wolves on a season-long loan deal. His time at the Black Country outfit has been hit and miss so far, as he has shown glimpses of his untapped potential but has been unable to make a sustaining impact.
Trincao has featured 24 times in all competitions for Wolves, scoring two goals and setting up another. While it was initially believed that Bruno Lage’s side could consider signing him permanently, that is no longer the case. So, the 22-year-old, in all likelihood, will return to Barcelona at the end of the ongoing campaign.
However, Trincao’s situation at Camp Nou is unlikely to improve as the Catalans have significantly strengthened their frontline during the January window and are planning to add more fresh faces to their frontline, such as Leeds United star Raphinha and Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.
As a result, a permanent exit in the summer looks likely for Trincao. And interestingly, Leeds United have emerged as a prospective suitor for the Portuguese international. As iterated earlier, the Whites’ winger, Raphinha, is a top target for Barcelona and could move to Camp Nou at the end of the season, with personal terms already agreed.
It would leave a gaping hole in the Leeds attacking unit, considering how influential Raphinha has been since he arrived at Elland Road in 2020. Trincao, to that end, could be seen as a replacement for the Brazilian international at Elland Road. Having had a year of Premier League football under his belt already, the 22-year-old Barcelona loanee would be able to up his game a notch next term.

However, Leeds will have to stave off competition from Valencia, FC Porto and SL Benfica if they wish to land Trincao permanently. The forward is not the only Barcelona player that the Whites have their eyes on, with defender Oscar Mingueza also on the agenda. It will be interesting to see if Leeds end up signing the Barcelona duo in the upcoming transfer window.
