Liverpool are reportedly closing in on the capture of Irish youth sensation Trent Kone-Doherty, who currently plies his trade with Derry City.

According to a report from Irish Independent, Liverpool are on the verge of securing a deal to sign Trent Kone-Doherty. The Reds are in the driver’s seat to complete the capture of the 15-year-old talent, who has mesmerised the onlookers with his performances in the youth leagues of Northern Ireland.

A winger by trade, Kone-Doherty is currently a part of Derry City’s youth academy. The Irish youth sensation already plies his trade with the team’s Under-19 setup, with many expecting him to make a bigger move in his career.

The explosive forward has a father of African heritage, but he is fully committed to playing for Northern Ireland. He has already been a regular with the nation’s youth teams, notably making three appearances for the Under-17 setup.

The 15-year-old has made quite an impression with his ability to beat players, which is complemented by his electric pace. Although a right-footer, the youngster is capable of operating on both flanks, making him a useful attacking outlet to have for any manager looking to develop youth talents.

Kone-Doherty’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, with Liverpool keen on securing his services. While the two parties are yet to reach an agreement, the Reds have reportedly offered a pre-contract. The general consensus is that the youngster, who turns 16 in the summer, will sign the contract and move to Merseyside after the end of the season.

The 15-year-old could be an exciting addition to Liverpool’s youth academy that has produced a host of talented players in recent years, including Curtis Jones, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Neco Williams, among many others.

In Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool also have a coach who is more than capable of nurturing young talents and developing them into world-beaters. Kone-Doherty will be hoping for a similar level of success upon his potential arrival at Anfield, although he has a long way to go before he can be considered as part of the club’s senior side.

The Derry City youth sensation is not the only youngster linked with a move to Liverpool in the new season, as the Reds have also been targeting promising Fabio Carvalho. The Fulham starlet offers much more experience in professional football, though Liverpool could face stiff competition from the likes of AC Milan and Arsenal.
