Premier League side Newcastle are reportedly preparing a summer move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma.

According to the Daily Mail, Yves Bissouma has been the subject of discussions at Newcastle United as the club prepare for a major overhaul in the summer transfer window. The 25-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder is one of the many options the Magpies are pondering over, as signing a midfielder is one of their topmost priorities ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Bissouma joined Brighton & Hove Albion in the 2018 summer transfer window after impressing for Ligue 1 side Lille. The midfielder made 55 appearances for the French outfit over the course of two seasons, scoring four times and assisting two goals before the Premier League club came calling.

The 25-year-could not immediately break into the Brighton first XI, often featuring from the bench in his first two seasons with the club. Recurring injuries further cut down his game time with the Premier League outfit. But Bissouma bounced back with impressive performances, becoming a mainstay in the club’s midfield from the 2020/21 season.

This season, he has made 22 appearances for the Seagulls across all competitions and has been one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League. An all-round midfielder, the Malian international’s strength lies in his tackling and positioning, but he can also play further up the pitch.

His recent performances have caught Newcastle’s attention, who will be aided by the fact that Bissouma will have just one year remaining on his contract with Brighton after the ongoing season. The likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have also been linked with the 25-year-old in the past.

The Magpies signed central midfielder Bruno Guimaraes in the winter transfer window but want to add at least one more top defensive midfielder ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips is also among the midfield options that Newcastle are considering in the summer transfer window.
