Newcastle United have reportedly entered the chase for Domenico Berardi, with Arsenal also showing an interest in the £25 million-rated Italian international.

According to Chronicle Live, Domenico Berardi is garnering considerable interest from the Premier League, with Newcastle United becoming the latest club to join the chase for the £25 million-rated Italian international. Arsenal and Leicester City are also keeping tabs on the UEFA Euro 2020 winner, with a summer move looking likely.

Domenico Berardi hoped to leave Sassuolo last summer when his stock was at its highest, following his exploits with Italy at UEFA Euro 2020. While the winger won the continental tournament with his national side, he could not convince Sassuolo to let him leave amid interest from the Premier League. Sassuolo were wary of letting two of their star names leave after Manuel Locatelli joined Juventus last summer.

There is a feeling Berardi wants a new challenge outside Italy and would prefer a switch to the Premier League. Leicester City and Arsenal are already reported to be chasing the right winger. The Gunners, in particular, want a quality option to cover for Bukayo Saka on the flank, while Nicolas Pepe is likely to be sold.

Berardi’s versatility and experience could make him a good signing for Arsenal. However, the Gunners may have to think twice about spending £25 million on Berardi as the 27-year-old is not expected to have a high resale value.

Newcastle United are unlikely to be deterred by such considerations as they look to shore up their options on the right flank. Eddie Howe is looking for an experienced attacker such as Berardi, who could benefit the club in the short term.

The Italian international’s calibre and experience would be necessary for a side like Newcastle to rise in the standings and challenge for a place in the top six. The Magpies are also looking at other options, such as Arsenal target Antony.

It remains to be seen if joining either Arsenal or Newcastle entices Berardi to move away from Sassuolo. If he does, he will likely prove good value for the money spent and provide a quality option for both sides interested in the winger.
