Paris Saint-Germain attacker Angel Di Maria is reportedly among the potential candidates identified as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah at Liverpool.

According to Fichajes, Liverpool have already started preparing for life without star forward Mohamed Salah and have included PSG’s Argentine winger Angel Di Maria in the list of four players who could be targeted as a replacement for Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool find themselves in a tricky situation at the moment. Despite being one of the favourites to go the whole hog in the UEFA Champions League while fighting toe-to-toe with Manchester City in the Premier League title race, a dark cloud hangs over the Reds as wing-king Mohamed Salah rapidly approaches towards the last year of his contract.

Arguably the best player in the world at the moment, Salah is in sensational form and is on course to record his best tally over a season. The Egyptian has netted 28 goals and provided ten assists in 35 appearances across all competitions this term. He is undoubtedly crucial for Jurgen Klopp’s side and has been one of the major driving forces behind Liverpool’s era-defining success in recent years.

However, as per recent reports, Liverpool have so far failed to convince Salah to pen fresh terms, with no progress in contract talks. Salah’s priority remains to stay at Anfield, but the player has no intention of accepting the current offer on the table to extend his stint. And the club may eventually need to let him leave if they are to avoid losing him for free in 2023.

To that end, Liverpool are already looking for options in the market to be able to replace Salah, in case they do end up losing their prized asset in the summer, drawing up a list of four potential replacements including Argentine winger Angel Di Maria.

Di Maria has proven to be a decent servant and a major contributor in front of goal since joining PSG from Manchester United back in 2015. But after 289 appearances, 91 goals and 115 assists thus far in PSG shirt, this may well be his final season at Parc des Princes, as he looks likely to exit when his contract expires this summer.

Di Maria is frustrated with being a victim of PSG’s super-rich owners’ embarrassment of riches. Despite stiff competition, the Argentine forward has managed to secure a position in their strike-force but was still overlooked by PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino in favour of Neymar as the Ligue 1 side were dumped out of the UEFA Champions League by Real Madrid.

The PSG bosses are unconvinced about keeping Di Maria on their books, even if fellow attacker Kylian Mbappe eventually leaves Paris in the summer and have already identified Di Maria’s successor in the form of Lyon starlet Lucas Paqueta. And one club keeping a close eye on the 34-year-old Argentine international’s situation is Liverpool, who view him as a low-cost, short-term fix.

With Luis Diaz already looking like a high-quality winter acquisition, Liverpool utilising a top-class experienced right-winger in Di Maria as a bridge makes sense, and he may turn out to be a wise signing. Whether Liverpool make a Bosman move for the 34-year-old Argentine international as a replacement for Salah come summer remains to be seen.
