AS Roma are keen on signing Alexandre Lacazette in the summer, who might leave Arsenal on a free transfer if he fails to agree on a new contract at the Emirates.

According to Italian outlet ASRomaLive, there is significant interest in Alexandre Lacazette from AS Roma, who are keen on signing a new striker. The Frenchman’s potential availability on a free transfer has attracted some of the cash-strapped clubs, including the Serie A giants.

Alexandre Lacazette ended his goalless run and scored at the tenth time of asking on Sunday evening against Leicester City. His strike from the spot against the Foxes was his first in ten games, and the striker would have been relieved after getting on the scoresheet. Despite the lack of goals, he has been in immense form, laying assists and linking up play effectively in and around the box.

Lacazette offers more than just goals; he stitches the entire Arsenal attack together and provides battling performances every time he takes to the pitch. In hindsight, the Frenchman rarely has a bad game, and replacing him will be a huge task for Mikel Arteta, who continues to be unclear on his contractual situation.

The striker’s contract is due to expire in the summer, and many clubs have already expressed an interest in signing him. The 30-year-old has certainly shown suitors he has plenty left in the tank, proving he can be a valuable addition to any team. However, the chances of him remaining at Arsenal are also possible, as the door is still very much open.

Arsenal have seemingly delayed talks until the summer, and Arteta recently insisted that it still remains the case. However, the concern for Lacazette would be the length of the new contract, which could see him pursue a move away from the Emirates Stadium.

AS Roma are the latest club to join the chase for the Frenchman. The Giallorossi are on the lookout for bargain deals, and the idea of signing the 30-year-old on a potential free transfer certainly appeals to them. Jose Mourinho may need a new striker to add more experience and variety to his attack, despite the presence of Tammy Abraham in the frontline.

Roma may have to battle arch-rivals Juventus, who also retain an interest in Lacazette. However, the lure of playing regularly and a decent contract could convince the Frenchman to sign for the Giallorossi. Moreover, the idea of playing football under an esteemed manager like Mourinho could also be an enticing prospect for any player.

It remains to be seen what transpires of Lacazette’s future, as it could go in any direction during the summer. He could still stay at Arsenal or leave for some of the other big clubs showing interest in him, including former club Lyon.
