Barcelona and Real Madrid reportedly face stiff competition from Paris Saint-Germain in the pursuit of 27-year-old Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic could be one of the most highly sought-after players in the market in the summer transfer window. Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain are keen on signing the 27-year-old midfielder from Serie A club Lazio.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has established himself as one of the best players in Serie A since joining Lazio from KRC Genk in July 2015. A maverick presence in the middle of the park, the Serbian international has been a pivotal figure for club and country over the last six and a half years.

To date, the 27-year-old has made 284 appearances for Lazio, chipping in with 55 goals and 49 assists in the process. But there is a feeling that Milinkovic-Savic could leave the Serie A giants in the summer transfer window, with some of the most high profile clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, and PSG, hot on his trail.

Barcelona will need to enter the market for a central midfielder in the summer as Sergio Busquets is approaching the end of his illustrious career. With Riqui Puig also deemed surplus to requirements, the Blaugrana will soon have to invest in a midfielder, bringing Milinkovic-Savic into the picture.

As for Real Madrid, Los Blancos’ interest in Milinkovic-Savic is due to the advancing years of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. In addition, with Dani Ceballos and Isco facing uncertain futures at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid’s hand will be forced, prompting them to sign a new central midfielder.

Meanwhile, PSG will have to enter the market for a central midfielder soon as Ander Herrera, Idrissa Gueye, and Georginio Wijnaldum are on the wrong side of 30, with Wijnaldum failing to make his mark since arriving on a free transfer last summer. Bringing in an able partner for Marco Verratti is important for PSG, who have been linked with several midfielders, including Lucas Paqueta.

Milinkovic-Savic is also a viable target for PSG, who will soon be locking horns with Barcelona and Real Madrid in the race to sign the 27-year-old. With two years left on his contract with Lazio, the Serie A giants could still demand a considerable amount, which might leave him out of Barcelona’s reach.
