Arsenal are reportedly keeping an aye on Serge Gnabry’s situation, and a summer move could be on the horizon for one of their former stars.

According to Fichajes, Arsenal are keeping their options open and monitoring Serge Gnabry’s situation at Bayern Munich. The 26-year-old German international could be available if his contractual situation does not change by the time the summer transfer window opens.

It would be a dream for Arsenal fans to see Serge Gnabry play in their colours again. Supporters are still baffled and bitter about how the 26-year-old German international was pushed out of the club and felt the winger never got the chance that he deserved.

Six years since he departed for Werder Bremen and then to Bayern Munich, Arsenal have a realistic chance to bring Gnabry back to the Emirates. However, it could be a costly affair for Mikel Arteta’s side, although it may reflect a sound, proven investment.

The 26-year-old German international may not fall into Arteta’s current age profile for prospective targets but may represent a brilliant investment. Much like how Liverpool invested huge sums on Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker, Gnabry could be that kind of a difference-maker for the Gunners if they make a move.

Since moving away from Arsenal, Gnabry has been successful with Bayern, winning every possible trophy at club level in Germany and Europe. His contractual situation is strange, considering the importance placed on the player at Bavaria.

Gnabry’s current deal expires in 2023, and with no extension in sight yet, some of the biggest clubs have been alerted of his possible availability in the coming summer. A move back to the Premier League may certainly appeal to the wide attacker, and more so if it could be Arsenal, where he has unfinished business.

Chelsea are also keen on signing the 26-year-old German international, although if the Gunners make their intentions clear, Gnabry could reportedly prefer a switch to the Emirates. He could be a wonderful addition to Arteta’s squad, especially amid their need for a wide attacker.

Tactically, he could fit straight into their lineup, with Arteta able to count on versatile attackers such as Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli to move their positions. Gnabry can play in different areas of the front three, which makes him such a useful talent in this Arsenal squad.

The move itself will depend on the finances involved, as many clubs eagerly wait on the outcome of his contractual situation. Despite having just a year on his deal when the season ends, Gnabry will command a hefty transfer fee and be expected to draw a massive salary.

Considering the Gunners were able to shave off a large chunk of their wage bill following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s departure, there is certainly room for a marquee arrival such as the 26-year-old German international at the Emirates.
