Manchester City have reportedly joined the chase for Djed Spence, with Tottenham and Bayern Munich also in the mix.

According to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Manchester City have joined the chase for Djed Spence, with plenty of clubs across Germany and England vying for the right-back’s signature. It could be an interesting summer with clubs including Bayern Munich and Tottenham eyeing the Middlesbrough full-back.

Djed Spence has become a common name among media outlets after the full-back’s impressive performances at Nottingham Forest, where he is on loan from Middlesbrough. The victory over Arsenal in the FA Cup in January highlighted the right-back’s talents, and since then, a host of clubs have been chasing him.

He has a contract until 2024, and despite the widespread interest, Middlesbrough are expected to command a modest fee ranging between €10-15 million, according to Florian Plettenberg.

Tottenham have maintained a substantial interest in Spence and could be ahead of the queue when the summer window opens. The north Londoners are looking at many options for the right-back position as Antonio Conte remains unconvinced by Matt Doherty or Emerson Royal.

Bayern Munich joined Spence’s chase recently, with the Bavarians eyeing the top-rated English talent to resolve their own right-back isssues. The German champions need an upgrade on Benjamin Pavard, who has not always been consistent enough, while backup option Bouna Sarr has hardly made an impact.

There are other clubs from Germany, including Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, in the mix, although the lure of Bayern eclipses those sides. Meanwhile, Manchester City have now joined the chase for the right-back, with Pep Guardiola reportedly keen on the 21-year-old full-back.

The Premier League champions could look to bring in a new player as cover and competition for Kyle Walker, who has had an up and down season. Plus with Joao Cancelo establishing himself on the left side of the defence, the Cityzens need a backup at right-back. Guardiola could look to develop Spence into a top-rated star for the future and a long-term replacement for Walker.

It remains to be seen which of those clubs can prise the 21-year-old away from Middlesbrough. One way or another, Spence may find himself playing in one of the top divisions, away from the Championship.
