Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in signing Moussa Diaby, valued at around €70 million by Bayer Leverkusen.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Moussa Diaby is becoming a highly sought-after player in the market ahead of the summer transfer window. Two of his prospective suitors are Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, who might have to pay around €70 million to sign the French international from Bayer Leverkusen.

Moussa Diaby has come leaps and bounds since joining Bayer Leverkusen from Paris Saint-Germain in July 2019. The 22-year-old took little time to establish himself as a regular fixture for Die Werkself and has steadily grown in stature over the last two and a half years.

The youngster’s progress has also helped him break into the French national side, and he has enjoyed a strong 2021/22 campaign. Diaby has 15 goals and nine assists in 31 appearances across all competitions for Bayer Leverkusen. And his exploits have not gone unnoticed, with several high profile clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, setting sights on him.

The interest from Real Madrid stems from the uncertainties surrounding the future of Eden Hazard. While the Merengues are looking to replace Gareth Bale with Kylian Mbappe, who has been rejecting the advances of PSG over a contract renewal, Hazard’s possible departure could leave them wanting to sign another wide-attacker.

Diaby has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid, who have been monitoring his progress closely for a long time. But Los Blancos will need to fend off stiff competition from Bayern Munich to secure the services of the 22-year-old from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Bundesliga champions are bracing themselves for a busy transfer window, wherein they could bolster several positions. Signing a wide-attacker could also be on Bayern Munich’s agenda, especially with Serge Gnabry facing an uncertain future. The German international will enter the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich in the summer, with Real Madrid coincidentally keen on signing him.

Diaby could be an option worth exploring to replace Gnabry, although Bayer Leverkusen will demand a premium to part with the French international. According to the report, the Bundesliga club will ask for around €70 million for Diaby, which is understandable, considering his contract runs until June 2025.

But Real Madrid and Bayern Munich might have more clubs to compete against in pursuit of Diaby, who is also a target for Newcastle United, Manchester United and some other Premier League outfits. So, the race to sign Diaby in the summer transfer window could be heated, with several bigwigs eager to land him.
