Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are reportedly weighing up the prospect of signing Luka Jovic from Real Madrid in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Luka Jovic is the subject of interest from Borussia Dortmund over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Bundesliga giants are scouring the market for a long-term replacement for Erling Haaland, with the Real Madrid outcast emerging as one of the options on their radar.

Luka Jovic joined Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt in July 2019, widely regarded as a possible long-term successor for Karim Benzema. But the Serb might not have foreseen the Frenchman going from strength to strength at the Santiago Bernabeu, becoming one of the best players in the world in the process.

As a result, the 24-year-old has been a bit-part player for Real Madrid, with his form taking a beating due to his sporadic participation. Jovic has a paltry tally of three goals and four assists in 49 appearances for Real Madrid and has often been overlooked by Carlo Ancelotti even when Benzema has been unavailable.

With his Real Madrid career headed nowhere, Jovic will likely depart the Bernabeu in the summer transfer window. And the Serbian international could return to the Bundesliga ahead of the 2022/23 season, with Borussia Dortmund keen on snapping him up.

The Black and Yellows are sweating over the long-term future of Erling Haaland, with a summer departure from Signal Iduna Park likely for the Norwegian striker. Interestingly, Haaland has been heavily linked with Real Madrid, with Los Blancos reportedly submitting an offer to him.

Haaland’s departure will leave Borussia Dortmund with a desperate search for a top-class striker, with Jovic emerging as one of the candidates. The Real Madrid outcast has previously had a memorable stint with Eintracht Frankfurt, having been one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga in the 2018/19 season.

In addition to Jovic, Karim Adeyemi and Timo Werner have also been heavily linked with Borussia Dortmund, whose final decision will be interesting to see. With Donyell Malen already on board at Signal Iduna Park and Youssoufa Moukoko primed for big things, signing a player like Jovic could hold the Bundesliga giants in good stead.
