Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Darwin Nunez, who continues to attract the attention of several high profile sides on the continent.

According to Calciomercato.it, Darwin Nunez is emerging to be a top target for Premier League sides, with Arsenal being the latest to see their name linked with the Uruguayan. The Benfica striker could be sold if the Portuguese giants receive reasonable offers close to their asking price.

The 22-year-old forward has been prolific for Benfica in the previous 18 months, scoring crucial goals. This term, Nunez has 25 goals across all competitions, naturally attracting the attention of plenty of clubs from the continent.

Newcastle United and West Ham United made concerted efforts in January to bring the striker to England. The Hammers reportedly made a late push through a bid reaching €45 million, which was rejected considering Benfica wanted at least €60-65 million for their prized asset.

That kind of price range rules out plenty of interested parties, including AC Milan, who remain keen. It brings the spotlight on English sides, who would be in a position to pay up what it takes to sign the Uruguayan in the summer. The Hammers could certainly revisit their initial interest, although the presence of some other big teams could dictate his future destination.

Manchester United are already scouting the 22-year-old with the idea of making an offer in the summer. The Red Devils already have a stable of attackers in their setup, but Nunez could be pencilled in to replace his compatriot Edinson Cavani, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, there is also fresh interest from Arsenal, who are serious about bringing a new striker or two in the next window. After the season, Mikel Arteta will be left with a problem, as he would have no recognised strikers left in his squad. Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah have their contracts expiring and could leave on free transfers.

They are linked with the likes of Jonathan David, Victor Osimhem, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Alexander Isak, and it does seem one big name could arrive. And Nunez, too, has now popped up on the Gunners’ radars.

Nunez certainly fits the mould of striker Arteta wants. He has similarities with January target Dusan Vlahovic and has qualities that suit Arsenal. Financially, the Gunners could be in a position to splash big in the summer, more specifically on a new striker.

It remains to be seen if Arsenal are genuinely interested or are just keeping tabs on the 22-year-old. Overall, Nunez would be well suited to lead the line at the Emirates and become a part of an exciting new team under Arteta.
