Catalan giants Barcelona have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen over a Bosman move in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Andreas Christensen is one step closer to joining Barcelona on a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. The Chelsea defender has verbally agreed to complete his free transfer to Camp Nou ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Andreas Christensen is currently enjoying the best phase of his career, having gone from strength to strength since the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as the Chelsea manager in January 2021. The Danish international has become a mainstay at the back for club and country in this period.

To date, the 25-year-old has made 153 appearances for Chelsea, with 26 outings coming in the ongoing campaign. But the Blues are in a spot of bother over Christensen’s long-term future, as he has entered the final six months of his contract, with developments on the renewal front being slow. That provided the impetus to Barcelona and other prospective suitors to approach him over a summer transfer.

The interest from Barcelona stems from various reasons. The Catalan giants have been abysmal defensively this season by their standards, with goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen also experiencing a significant dip in form. But the centre-backs are also at fault for conceding needless goals this term.

Gerard Pique is approaching the end of his glittering career and is on his last legs as a regular at Barcelona. Eric Garcia was supposed to be Pique’s long-term successor when he returned from Manchester City on a Bosman move last summer, but the Spanish international has flattered to deceive for the most part.

Ronald Araujo is the only reliable centre-back at Xavi Hernandez’s disposal, with Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti diminishing in stature at the club recently. But Araujo’s long-term future is the subject of intense speculation, with Chelsea coincidentally one of the Uruguayan defender’s suitors. Christensen is thus a viable target for Barcelona, with his impending status as a free agent making him an attractive option.

The Dane has now inched closer to joining Barcelona in the summer transfer window, with the two parties reaching a verbal agreement over a Bosman move. It now looks like Christensen’s time at Chelsea is coming to an end, with Barcelona his next destination.

Hopefully this will be the only one of our back line that leaves – it’s not good when we have so many players all reaching the end our their contracts at the same time.
We now defo need to keep Azpi & Rudiger for sure – give them a blank cheque just get them signed ASAP.
