Serie A giants Napoli are reportedly in regular contact with the representatives of Liverpool striker Divock Origi over a potential Bosman transfer in the summer.

According to Tutto Mercato Web, Napoli are negotiating with the agents of Liverpool forward Divock Origi over a transfer in the summer when his contract with the Reds runs out.

Origi has had a stop-start career at Liverpool since he signed for them from LOSC Lille back in 2014. The Belgian arrived at Anfield in 2015 after spending a year on loan with Les Dogues but never got going and was sent out another temporary spell to Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg for the 2017/18 campaign.

Upon returning, Origi played a key role in Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League and Premier League triumphs in 2018/19 and 2019/20, respectively but has been unable to carve out a regular spot in the lineup for himself. To date, the 26-year-old has made 168 appearances for the Merseysiders, bagging 40 goals and 16 assists.

In the ongoing campaign, Origi has found himself behind the deadly quartet of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino in the pecking order. With Liverpool adding Luis Diaz to their ranks in January, his chances of featuring have taken a further hit. As his contract with Jurgen Klopp’s side winds down, the Belgian international seems primed for a new challenge in his career.

Origi had been a subject of interest from several clubs during the January transfer window. And now that he will become a free agent in the summer, a slew of clubs will be lining up to secure his services.

Napoli are among the clubs who are keen on signing the 26-year-old forward once he leaves Liverpool. The Partenopei had explored the possibility of signing Origi in January, but a move could not be finalised.

However, the Serie A giants have been in constant contact with the striker’s representatives recently and are working to clinch his transfer. It is claimed that Napoli find his wages of €4.5 million per year affordable and see him as a good backup option for Victor Osimhen.

Furthermore, with the Nigerian forward attracting interest from the Premier League, Napoli will need to ensure that there is quality cover in place in the eventuality of Osimhen’s exit.

However, Napoli might have to face competition from Serie A rivals Atalanta, who have had their eyes on Origi since last year. As things stand, the 26-year-old seems certain to depart from Anfield. As to where he ends up after leaving Liverpool, only time will tell.
