Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has emerged as a summer transfer target for reigning Serie A champions Inter Milan.

According to the print edition of Corriere dello Sport, as relayed by Sempre Inter, Manchester United striker Anthony Martial, who is currently on loan at Sevilla, has become a subject of transfer interest from Serie A title-holders Inter Milan.

Martial joined Manchester United in the summer of 2015 from AS Monaco, becoming the world’s most expensive teenager at that time. He made a blazing start to life at Old Trafford, finishing his debut season as the club’s top scorer under then-manager Louis van Gaal.

However, it has been pretty much downhill for the Frenchman ever since, barring the occasional good performances, as he has struggled to nail down a spot in the side. While Martial enjoyed a highly productive 2019/20 season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he failed to replicate that form in the subsequent campaign and struggled for game-time in the ongoing term.

With the forward falling behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford in the pecking order at Old Trafford, he was allowed to leave on loan in January, with Martial signing for La Liga side Sevilla until the end of the season.

Since moving to Spain, the 26-year-old has made a positive impact, scoring and assisting one goal apiece in four matches. If he were to keep performing at the same level for the rest of the season, there could be a case made for Sevilla to want to sign him permanently. But, they would have to face stiff competition from Inter Milan, who are keen on snaring Martial away later this year.

The Nerazzurri are preparing to freshen up their attacking options in the summer transfer window as Lautaro Martinez is courting serious interest from several top clubs while Edin Dzeko is entering the final phase of his career. With question marks surrounding the future of former Manchester United attacker Alexis Sanchez, a new forward is a must-have for Inter Milan in the summer.

To that end, they have been linked with a move for Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus. At the same time, though, they are also targeting a swoop for Martial, who could be made available for a permanent transfer in the summer by Manchester United.

With his contract with the Red Devils running until 2024, Inter Milan might have to shell out a significant sum for Martial, and it remains to be seen if they are prepared to do so.
