Chelsea have set their eyes on Marco Verratti over a summer transfer, with Thomas Tuchel reportedly keen on a reunion with the Italian.

According to Fichajes, Chelsea could sign Marco Verratti in the summer transfer window, with Thomas Tuchel keen on strengthening his midfield options for next season. The Italian has been with Paris Saint-Germain for nearly ten years and might look for a new challenge.

Thomas Tuchel may have a solid squad with quality depth, but the Blues are looking to bring in better players to fill some key areas. They remain linked with several top-rated stars to be signed in the summer, with central midfield and defence identified as areas of utmost importance for the German tactician.

Chelsea are about to face tremendous problems with personnel at the back, with at least three first-team stars, including Antonio Rudiger, in the final few months of their contracts. As their links to several big-name defenders seem to suggest, the Blues are in for a big summer, which probably will also see a new midfielder arrive.

In last August, Tuchel sanctioned a move for Saul Niguez as he wanted his midfield to have quality depth. The Spaniard has been underwhelming, and a return to Atletico Madrid in the summer seems likely. With the futures of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley also uncertain, a new signing needs to be made.

PSG star Marco Verratti is one of the names discussed within the corridors of Stamford Bridge, with the Italian supposedly looking for a new challenge. The 29-year-old has been with the Parisians for nearly ten years since signing from Pescara in the summer of 2012.

Verratti has developed into one of the best central midfielders in Europe and won the UEFA Euro 2020 last year with Italy. Despite many top clubs expressing their desire to sign the combative star over the years, PSG have admirably managed to keep hold of the Italian in their squad.

While he continues to be an important player for the French capital outfit, a move to the Premier League by joining Chelsea could be a tempting prospect. PSG are expected to demand a figure between €50-60 million if he wishes to leave, although they would prefer to keep hold of him.

Verratti will give Chelsea a solid option in midfield alongside Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho. The latter is also a subject of transfer speculation, with Juventus interested, and the PSG star could also become a reliable replacement for his Italy teammate.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea are prepared to splurge big on the 29-year-old midfielder, as his presence would enhance their title credentials in domestic and European competitions.
