Fiorentina are reportedly considering a summer swoop for Manchester United and Portugal right-back Diogo Dalot.

According to the print edition of Italian newspaper La Nazione, as relayed by Tribal Football, Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has emerged as a transfer target for Serie A outfit AS Roma ahead of the summer window.

Dalot arrived at Manchester United in the summer of 2018, signing from FC Porto. The right-back had been tipped for a bright future by then-manager Jose Mourinho, but he never got going at Old Trafford and was loaned out to AC Milan for the 2020/21 campaign, during which he made a decent impression.

Back at United last summer, the Portuguese had been linked with an exit but ended up staying put. However, he was hardly a regular under ex-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the early parts of the campaign, with the Norwegian preferring Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back. However, that has changed since Ralf Rangnick took over the reins, with the 22-year-old becoming the first choice in the position.

Dalot has featured 20 times across all competitions this season and has made a decent impression with his attacking forays down the right side. However, with his contract expiring in 2023, there remain some uncertainties surrounding his future at Old Trafford beyond the ongoing campaign.

Fiorentina are seemingly prepared to test Manchester United’s resolve with a bid for the Portuguese international in the summer transfer window.

The Viola will need a new right-sided full-back before next season as Alvaro Odriozola’s loan deal will expire, after which he will be returning to Real Madrid. The Spaniard has been a regular for the Italian outfit this season, and his departure would leave a hole in the backline.

Fiorentina are now hoping to address the problem with the addition of Dalot, who has proven himself in the Serie A during his loan stint with AC Milan in the 2020/21 campaign. It is claimed that Manchester United would likely demand a sum of €12 million for the 22-year-old, although the Viola will try and negotiate a lower fee for the defender.

Given his increased prominence in the past few months, it will be interesting to see if Manchester United are willing to let Dalot go in the summer. If they allow him to leave, the Red Devils are very likely to invest in a new right-back.
