Barcelona will reportedly face stiff competition from Serie A giants AC Milan in the race to sign Noussair Mazraoui on a Bosman move.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Noussair Mazraoui is the subject of interest from AC Milan over a possible Bosman move in the summer transfer window. The Serie A giants will battle Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund in the race to sign the 24-year-old Ajax right-back.

Noussair Mazraoui has been with Ajax for nearly 16 years, having joined their fabled academy in July 2006. The Moroccan international has steadily grown in stature in the Dutch club’s first-team squad in the last few years, with the ongoing campaign being his most productive to date.

The 24-year-old has five goals and three assists in 25 appearances across all competitions this term. But Ajax will likely see the player leave as a free agent in the summer transfer window, as he has entered the final six months of his contract. The prospect of snapping up a full-back on a Bosman move has captured the attention of Barcelona and AC Milan.

The interest from Barcelona stems from Sergino Dest’s inability to convince Xavi Hernandez of his abilities. Barcelona will thus likely offload the USMNT international in the summer transfer window, leaving a spot open for a right-back, especially with Sergi Roberto also facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou.

While Dani Alves seems to be ageing like fine wine, the fact that he is 38 years old will not be lost on Barcelona. Mazraoui is thus a viable target for the Blaugrana, although they will need to fend off competition from AC Milan in the race to sign the 24-year-old right-back.

Stefano Pioli currently has three right-back options at his disposal in Davide Calabria, Pierre Kalulu and Alessandro Florenzi. But Florenzi is on loan from AS Roma and will return to the Stadio Olimpico in the summer. And with Kalulu utilised across the defensive line, the Serie A giants might need to invest in a right-back, bringing Mazraoui into the picture.

In addition to Barcelona and AC Milan, Mazraoui is also a target for Borussia Dortmund. But recent reports have claimed that the 24-year-old is keen on joining Barcelona, leaving the Catalan giants in a healthy position in the race to sign him on a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.
