The league games this weekend were played to a backdrop of somber silence (or was it peals of laughter?) as Sam Allardyce lost his job after just one game in charge of the English national team. While these whirlpools of entrapment and idiocy provided entertainment off the pitch, on-pitch entertainment was not far behind.

Seventh round of the Barclays premier league saw a plethora of goals and the usual dose of controversy. Chelsea continued their fine form, whereas Man United and Man City continued with their winning ways. Liverpool defeated Everton in the Merseyside derby admist controversy, while Spurs continue their recent dominance over their North London rivals Arsenal.

The Premier League season has almost reached it's halfway mark but there is yet no telling as to who is making strides and who is falling behind. Here is another weekend's round-up of mixed results.
