Bayern Munich stormed into the Champions League semi-finals for the third year in a row following a resounding 6-1 home victory against FC Porto on Tuesday.  After falling behind 3-1 in the first leg last week, the pressure was on for Bayern to score at least twice to avoid a major upset, and they didn’t disappoint. In one of the greatest first half performances this season, Bayern went rampant and scored five times without reply, but eased the pressure in the second half. It was all Bayern right from minute one, with Robert Lewandowski rattling the post just minutes before Thiago headed them in front fifteen minutes in. A Jerome Boateng header and a great team goal finished by Lewandowski put the tie firmly in Bayern’s hands with just half an hour played. The Pole netted once more after Thomas Müller’s deflected goal to effectively finish off the tie. Bayern’s urgency wore off in the second half, with Porto managing […]

FC Porto stunned Bayern Munich with a 3-1 victory in the 1st leg of quarterfinals at the Estadio da Dragao on Wednesday. Ricardo Quaresma scored twice under the first ten minutes with Thiago pulling one back for the visitors, before Jackson Martinez adding one more in the second half giving Porto a great chance to progress to the semifinals. Quaresma once again pressurised Dante forcing an error from the Brazilian then racing forward to slot past Neuer to double the lead under 10 minutes. Bayern then had a brief spell of possession but found it difficult to move the ball around […]

The new Bayern manager stated in a press conference: “I have asked (Matthias) Sammer and (Karl-Heinz) Rummenigge to sign Thiago… I don’t know what will happen in the future, but I would like to work with him at Bayern. I would like to sign Thiago because he is from Barcelona and I know him really well… he is a really good player…It’ll be him or no one.” Guardiola managed Thiago in the Barcelona B side; while they have both come a long way since then, one wonders how much influence Pep’s words would have on Thiago. THT’s Verdict: Likely. Logically, a move to Manchester United makes a lot more sense for Thiago. He seeks regular playing time, and at United he […]
