The Spanish league saw some very interesting matches this week. with the top 3 being the main focus to see if there would be any major shocks, and fans weren’t disappointed. Real Madrid overcame a pontentially tricky situation against Granada to eventually end up winning the match 5-1. Although the Capital club won the match by a comfortable margin, Granada did a pretty good job of giving the Spanish giants a fight for their money in the first 30 minutes or so at the Santiago Bernabeu no less. Sergio Ramos must stick out for his performances in this match by easily thwarting any forays forward by the Granada forwards and also for scoring Madrid’s second goal. Table toppers Real Madrid ensured that they will go into the Clasico next week with a 3 point lead and a game in hand by overcoming a potentially tricky match away against Sporting Gijon. The hosts were beaten 0-3 with the all whites getting all 3 points although they did struggle at first against a stubborn Gijon defense led by the Catalonian Alberto Botia. In the end, Madrid broke the resistance with goals from Angel Di Maria, Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo. In what turned out to be an ill tempered match, the referee was generous with his cards and Gijon’s number 8 Sebastian Eguren collected two yellows and hence saw red.
