Chelsea are looking to sign a new striker this summer, following the departure of Didier Drogba from west London. According to  Calcio Mercato Web, Jose Mourinho is interested in his former Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain and is ready to offer Close to  €40m for the Napoli hitman. Higuain looks all set to leave the Italian club this summer, following their failure to qualify for the Champions League and Rafa Benitez imminent move to Real Madrid. There are a host of English clubs scrambling for Higuain’s deal, besides Chelsea,  Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool have already shown their interest. Last month, Gonzalo’s father hinted that negotiating a move may prove difficult, saying: “There are a lot of teams interested in Gonzalo. “However, he has a three-year contract to run with Napoli. I do not think he will go anywhere.” The 27 year old striker Joined Napoli from Real Madrid in 2013 and was Napoli’s top scorer this season with 18 goals in the league. A chance to […]

Chelsea are preparing a £26.8m move for Fiorentina’s Juan Cuadrado Chelsea are launching a bid to sign Juan Cuadrado from Fiorentina as they anticipate losing either Andre Schurrle or Mohamed Salah. Cuadrado, a Colombia international winger, has a release clause of £26.8million and Fiorentina do not wish to negotiate for less. Jose Mourinho knows Schurrle and Salah both want to leave as they grow frustrated with their lack of regular game time but he will not authorise the sales without bringing another player in. Schurrle is wanted by Wolfsburg and is keen to leave Chelsea. Salah has also been linked with a move away from the club with Roma and Inter Milan both interested. Fiorentina have cut short the loan of Chelsea’s Marko Marin, who joined Anderlecht on Tuesday, and have asked about Salah themselves though the Egyptian favours a move to Roma. Chelsea are also awaiting a £23million offer from Wolfsburg for Schurrle but are holding out for a […]

Roma are weighing up an offer for Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor while they are reportedly in negotiations to sign Mohamed Salah from Chelsea. Roma Coach Rudi Garcia is looking for alternatives as striker Mattia Destro is in talks with various clubs but particularly AC Milan. Adebayor is a player Garcia knows well and Roma have a good relationship with Tottenham. His wages are a concern but Roma are the calibre of club Adebayor would like to join. Tottenham have potential targets in the shape of Burnley’s Danny Ings and Carlos Bacca at Sevilla should Adebayor go. Adebayor has not played for Spurs since early November and boasts just two goals for the season, having netted 14 times in 2013/14. But the forward’s goal drought has not stopped Roma taking an interest in the 30-year-old, who, according to Gazzetta dell Sport, is free to leave White Hart Lane. One stumbling block in Pochettino’s efforts to offload Adebyaor, however, is that […]

Wolfsburg have made a €30m bid for Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle. Jose Mourinho has underlined that the German international needs to improve his physical shape and the striker has been placed on a fitness program to help cope with the rigours of the Premier League. World Cup winner Andre Schurrle has seen his opportunities limited this season, having started just five Premier League games. The 24-year-old suffered with a mystery illness early in the season which he believed contributed to his poor form and he remained a peripheral figure over the festive period. In his last two appearances for Chelsea, against Southampton on 28 December and in the FA Cup third-round victory over Watford, Mourinho opted to take him off at half-time. Ambitious Wolfsburg sense a deal can be done and want to test the Premier League leaders resolve. They believe Schurrle, who joined for £18m from Bayer Leverkusen in 2013, is keen to move. After having landed the important […]

Milan CEO Adriano Galliani said Fernando Torres shouldn’t leave in January, “but the market is unpredictable.” Torres was not even on the bench for Milan’s clash with Napoli at San Siro, as he was suffering from flu symptoms. There have been growing reports the striker will be sent away just six months into a two-year loan from Chelsea. “Will he leave in January? I don’t think so, but the market is unpredictable,” Galliani told Sky Sport Italia.”We need to have patience. The lad was unlucky and needs to settle into our football. He’s very important and he’ll certainly return to being player he once was.” Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was asked if the player would be taken back, but the Portuguese insisted there was no space at the club for the current Milan player with Diego Costa, Loic Remy and Didier Drogba all joining this summer and currently there is no space in the squad for the Spanish striker. “No,” […]

As the curtain comes down on a glorious Chelsea career for Frank Lampard, The Hard Tackle pays a tribute to one of the best, if not the best, midfielders the Premier League era has seen. Frank James Lampard had football running through his veins as soon as he was born. His father was a decorated footballer for West Ham United, winning the FA Cup twice with them and his uncle – Harry Redknapp – is a well known and well respected manager even to this day. It is only natural then that little Frank picked up a football from a very young age. As a result, when he was in his teens he joined the renowned West Ham Academy of Football and as he was to do throughout his career – succeed at whatever he does. The Lampard journey to greatness started when he was all of 15 as he joined the Academy at West Ham in the year 1994. […]

For any Chelsea fan, the first words that come to mind when asked about Mourinho – respect and his unquestionable authority on decisions. Granted rival fans may think of some other more colourful words, but for Chelsea fans (this writer included), He is unquestionable. So are His decisions. Speaking of decisions, we look at some transfers Mourinho has made over the years and especially this January transfer window and try to find the rationale behind it. Sense of infallibility With Mourinho, especially this time around, there is a sense around Stamford Bridge that he cannot fail. Whatever he does and says has to be been cast in stone. No more so than the sale of Juan Mata to Manchester United. Apart from a few pockets of Chelsea fans, everyone seemed to accept the decision. There was one common theme that all of them seemed to agree upon – if Mourinho has okayed it, it will be fine. His rationale behind […]
