AS ROMA v AC MILAN Stadio Olimpico, Rome Saturday 9th Jan, 2016, 19:45 GMT *** Roma and AC Milan meet on Saturday in Rome, and with the recent results showing no signs of improvement for either clubs, this game could well be decisive for the future of the respective managers Rudi Garcia and Sinisa Mihajlovic. The anger of the fans of both the clubs have reached a boiling point and all these factors make this game a must win for both. Milan president Silvio Berlusconi is reportedly furious with their 1-0 defeat to Bologna at San Siro, and is ready to sack Mihajlovic if things don’t improve quickly. Milan are in seventh place and 10 points off the Champions League after 18 games. Berlusconi is livid because after spending €80m in the summer, the club are still plagued with the same problems they had a year ago. The three time UEFA Champions League manager CArlo Ancelotti has managed the biggest clubs around Europe including Milan, Juventus, Chelsea, Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid, and has tasted Premier League glory in his first season in charge of Chelsea, winning both the league and the FA cup.
Roma recorded a crucial away win against Fiorentina to go to the top of the table after the end of Round 9 in Serie A. Napoli led by the irresistible Gonzalo Higuain continued their unbeaten run while Juventus and AC Milan recorded important victories. Ahead of the midweek fixtures, Roma have opened up a two point lead at the summit and Rudi Garcia’s men definitely were the big winners in an action packed weekend of football in Italy. Higuain continues his purple patch Gonzalo Higuain was recently labelled as ‘the best striker in the world’ by Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri and the manner in which he has started the current campaign suggests that this claim might have some substance. Napoli began the season slowly but soon turned things around with impressive wins over Lazio, Juventus, Milan and Fiorentina. Higuain has played an integral part in Napoli’s revival and is currently the top scorer with 7 goals. Apart from goals, the Argentine […]
Paris Saint-Germain’s star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic had mentioned that he has still not taken any decision regarding his future and might consider a move out this summer. Ibrahimovic still has a year left in his contract with the Paris side. Speaking to the media after Sweden’s 3-1 win over Montenegro in the 2016 Euro qualifier match, Ibrahimovic said: “I want to enjoy myself. I have one year left on my contract with PSG and no other plans, but then things can change from one day to the next. “I think that the older I get, and now I’m a father, I think differently about choosing a club. It’s not just the football aspect that needs to be right, it’s how your family settle and what kind of city you’ll be living in. “A lot of people think it’s all about the Champions League, but that’s not true. I want to be at a club where I enjoy myself, have a […]
AC Milan picked up their first win in more than a month to deal Roma’s Champions League qualification hopes a blow at the San Siro with a 2-1 victory. Marco van Ginkel’s first goal in Italian football gave the Rossoneri the lead before Mattia Destro, on loan at Milan from Roma, scored against his employers to double the hosts’ lead. Francesco Totti pulled one back from the penalty spot, but the Giallorossi could not find an equaliser as they missed an opportunity to consolidate second spot, allowing city rivals Lazio the opportunity to overtake them and Napoli to close to within two points on Sunday. While the Giallorossi had clambered back into second place, the hosts had only pride and dignity to play for, particularly Roma-owned Mattia Destro. Jeremy Menez and Mattia De Sciglio were suspended, missing Alessio Cerci, Riccardo Montolivo and Michael Essien. Douglas Maicon, Leandro Castan and Kevin Strootman didn’t make the trip, but Francesco Totti was dropped […]
Thousands of AC Milan fans boycotted their home victory over Cagliari in a protest over president Silvio Berlusconi’s running of the club. The Curva Sud ultras group called for fans to not attend the match or buy merchandise in a bid for Berlusconi to be more transparent. In spite of the chaos, Milan picked up a much-needed win over struggling Cagliari, triumphing 3-1 at the San Siro to relieve some of the pressure on coach Filippo Inzaghi. Two goals from Jeremy Menez, the second coming from the penalty spot, and a Philippe Mexes strike earned the Rossoneri only their second win since the start of February, and first in their last four. Diego Farias scored the leveller for Cagliari, who remain inside the bottom three and potentially seven points from safety with eight games of the season remaining. The Rossoneri fans were on strike after dire results, leaving the stands empty but for a banner that read: ‘Game over. Insert […]
AC Milan face an extremely difficult trip to the Stadio Franchi tonight, but their coach knows Fiorentina risk fatigue after their 4-0 defeat to Lazio and 1-1 Europa League draw with Roma. Unlike Milan, who are only competing in Serie A, the Viola are still in three different competitions. “We hope to be in better shape than them, even though we have some players returning from injury. Fiorentina are in good form ad I expect an open game,” said Inzaghi in his press-conference today. “We have everything it takes to put in a great performance. I hope to attack Fiorentina and rediscover our style of football. Complicated tests like this can help you get back on track.” “I showed the players recordings of their games played from September to December. We must find our confidence again, which was taken away due to injuries and inconsistency. Next week we should have Riccardo Montolivo, Nigel de Jong, Adil Rami and Mattia De […]
