Robert Lewandowski failed to score for a second successive league game as Bayern Munich stumbled to a 2-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Bayern Munich’s incredible winning run in all competitions came to an end, as they were stunned 2-1 by Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday. They do remain on top of the Bundesliga table despite the loss but are now only ahead of Bayer Leverkusen due to goal difference.
It was indeed a disappointing performance from the Bavarians. While they were the better of the two teams, dominating possession and creating chances, there was a lack of end product in their game.
Nevertheless, the home side did find the opener in the 29th minute through Leon Goretzka. But Eintracht Frankfurt were quick to respond, levelling things three minutes later with a set-piece that was scored by Martin Hinteregger, the defender culpable of conceding the opener in the first place.
In the second half, a heroic performance from Kevin Trapp saw Bayern get denied time and time again. Their frustration forced the home team to take more risks going forward, which allowed Eintracht to launch a deadly counter-attack in the 83rd minute and score the winner through Filip Kostic.

Manuel Neuer: 5/10
It was a disappointing evening for Manuel Neuer. In all fairness, the Bayern Munich goalkeeper wasn’t troubled much, with Eintracht Frankfurt mustering only three shots on target. However, he badly misjudged Kostic’s late attempt to concede the winner, allowing the opposition to seal three points.

Niklas Sule: 6.5/10
Starting at right-back, Niklas Sule made some dazzling runs into the final third. He quite enjoyed the freedom he was given, even creating multiple chances for his team and was close to scoring in the first half. Defensively, he was solid enough for the most part of the game, though he wasn’t exactly supported by his teammates.
Dayot Upamecano: 5/10
After a run of excellent performances, Dayot Upamecano endured a difficult evening against Eintracht. The Frenchman simply didn’t look competent enough to deal with the pressure, especially when the opposition pushed forward on the counter. He was indirectly culpable for both the goals.
Lucas Hernandez: 6/10
Lucas Hernandez was certainly looked more confident than Upamecano in the heart of the Bayern backline. He was solid in tackles and although the accuracy in his diagonal passing was not there, the former Atletico defender relatively did well.
Alphonso Davies: 6/10
Alphonso Davies produced his worst performance under Julian Nagelsmann so far this season. He was strong offensively, but extremely careless in defence, most notably allowing Almamy Toure to get a free shot on target. He was also a liability with his defensive position. It is an area that needs to be improved if the youngster is to become a more complete left-back.
Joshua Kimmich: 6.5/10
It was a difficult day at the office for Joshua Kimmich. The former Stuttgart prodigy failed to take control of the midfield department, with the Frankfurt duo of Kristijan Jakic and Djibril Sow putting up quite a fight. It led to Bayern’s lack of dominance on the proceedings and fewer chances for them in the final third.
Leon Goretzka: 6.5/10
Leon Goretzka showcased brilliant zest to find the opener in the 29th minute, producing a calm finish to beat Trapp in goal. Unfortunately, that was the high point of an otherwise underwhelming performance in the middle of the park. Indeed, the German international had difficulties taking control of midfield and use his box to box qualities to good effect.

Serge Gnabry: 6/10
Serge Gnabry was extremely wasteful in front of goal, missing a few golden opportunities to score a goal for his team while one of his other attempts hit the post. His influence also faded as the game progressed, especially in the second half.
Thomas Muller: 6.5/10
Thomas Muller had an active game in the final third, creating multiple scoring opportunities for Bayern and keeping the opposition defence occupied with his movements in and around the penalty area. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to get the better of the Frankfurt backline and Kevin Trapp.
Leroy Sane: 7/10
Leroy Sane did put in a valiant effort in the final third for FC Bayern. In fact, he probed Frankfurt defence the most with his quick feet and trickery out wide, being the architect of several chances throughout the course of the game. To his misfortune, his teammates simply couldn’tt find their scoring boots.
Robert Lewandowski: 6/10
It was another disappointing performance in the Bundesliga for Robert Lewandowski. The Pole was defended well by Frankfurt, even though he did register the assist for the Goretzka opener. The striker didn’t have too many scoring opportunities, though he was unfortunate to have his header outrageously saved by Trapp during the second half.

Jamal Musiala: 6.5/10
Jamal Musiala added more energy and drive in the final third after replacing Gnabry. The youngster should have been brought in much earlier.
Marcel Sabitzer: 6/10
Marcel Sabitzer looked energetic after coming on for Sule. But it create a vacancy on the right hand side of the Bayern defence, which Frankfurt exploited to score the winner.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting: N/A
A late replacement for Sane. Did not play enough to warrant a rating.
