Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings: 8/10 duo Cancelo and Rodri shine

Manchester City have pulled off another colossal triumph in the Premier League, as the hosts thrashed Tottenham Hotspur by 3-0 at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

The visitors Tottenham Hotspur were determined to regaining their momentum back in the league campaign, but Pep Guardiola and co. shattered their scheme into pieces, as the Citizens grabbed three points in the Matchweek 24 of the Premier League 2020/21 campaign.

After the agonising defeat against The Toffees in the fifth round of the FA Cup, The Lilywhites needed to showcase their character against an immaculate Manchester City. But as the game progressed, the dimension started to change, as the hosts throttle Jose Mourinho’s men in a barbarous way.

Harry Kane’s rich attempt went to vain, as it’s the crossbar in the 13th minute of the game. But after 10 odd minutes, Ilkay Gundogan, who has been filling up the spaces for Kevin De Bruyne since the Belgium international’s departure from the first eleven due to hamstring injury, had yet again grabbed the opportunity to secure a penalty from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s mistake, which was exquisitely finished by Rodri.

Within five minutes of the second half, Ilkay Gundogan which was served by Raheem Sterling, rattled the backline. But the eye-boggling moment came in the 66th minute of this fixture, as the Ederson Moraes found Gundogan with a lob from his goal and the German international calmly slotted the ball back into the net to make it 3-0.

The Blue half of Manchester stands firmly in the first place on the Premier League table after such an unprecedented exhibition. Here, at The Hard Tackle, we will run the rule over the two teams.

Manchester City

Ederson Moraes: 7.5/10

The Brazilian international didn’t have to do much, as he was remarkably steady on his task. His assist to Gundogan from his half was one of the highlights of the game.

Joao Cancelo: 8/10

Yet another sumptuous performance from the Portuguese right-back, as he was venturing through the right flank with ease. Throughout the ninety minutes, the player allowed his side to push further forward whenever it was needed.

John Stones: 7.5/10

Holding the backline in an order which could allow his side to maintain the rhythm, was his task, and quite astonishingly he had fulfilled his duty.

Aymeric Laporte: 6/10

Could have been an outstanding performance, but on minor occasions, the Frenchman had been facing difficulties to narrow the spaces for the oppositions. He needs to maintain the order in perfect sequence to establish himself in the first eleven.

Oleksandr Zinchenko: 7/10

The Ukrainian left-back seemed to be the exact piece on the left territory that Pep Guardiola was searching for. With 94 per cent passing accuracy, the player brought a fluidity to the proceedings and looked sharp in making the run forwards.

Bernardo Silva: 7/10

The Manchester City No. 20 possesses a unique ability to pull the strings firmly in those subtle spaces, and Silva yet again portrayed his craft with engrossing theatrics. With Six recoveries, the player was effortless as ever.

Rodri: 8/10

The Spanish international played the dictator role for his side, as his decisiveness to construct the exact move through the midfield region sparkled. Commanding the centre of the park, as the player covered every inch of grass on the pitch.

Ilkay Gundogan: 7.5/10

The German international seems to be in a joyous mood since December, as he has not only been justifying his credibility in such a significant region but also his awareness in front of the goal.

Phil Foden: 6/10

The young Englishman had a not so sturdy outing this time around, as he was struggling to narrate his game in early minutes of the game. Though, with seven recoveries in the attacking half, the player tried his utmost best to regain the momentum.

Gabriel Jesus: 6/10

The Manchester City No. 9 needs to be more decisive to announce his authority in such a gorgeous squad. Connecting the dots as the centre forward to allow the wingers to find spaces, that was his job to orchestrate, and he did that with purpose. He was substituted in the 79th minute.

Raheem Sterling: 7.5/10

The English forward has been a promising prodigy for his manager throughout this season, with another positive chapter, the player could hunt for the bigger picture. Served the assist to Gundogan.

SUBSTITUTES

Ferran Torres: 6/10

Came on as a substitute in the 69th minute. Helped his side to cross the boundary line with a steady display.

Riyad Mahrez: N/A

Came on replacing Gabriel Jesus in the 80th minute. As the game was already done and dusted, he added an extra piece to ensure that.

Tottenham Hotspur

Hugo Lloris: 4/10

As the leader of the pack, the Frenchman needed to showcase more responsibility, and some of his decision making could be a concerning sight for his manager.

Japhet Tanganga: 5.5/10

An unexpected starter in the fixture, Tanganga looked in good shape in spite of getting few games in this campaign. He had managed to win seven duels out of twelve, and with seven recoveries, the Englishman had a tireless evening.

Davinson Sanchez: 5/10

The Colombian International was craving a decent performance in such an enormous fixture, but he was not sturdy enough to hold the backline tightly in important moments. He had won six duels out of seven, which does dictate his defensive acumen.

Eric Dier: 6/10

The Englishman had been an absentee since Chelsea game, and on his return, he looked decent. With 60 accurate passes out of 69, the player tried to make things happen, but his backline couldn’t offer him much help.

Ben Davies: 5.5/10

The Spurs No. 33 had a shaky evening at Etihad, as he was the busiest of the lot in the left-back position. Lost seven duels out of twelve, which does indicate his vulnerability on that territory.

Tanguy Ndombele: 6/10

In spite of being one of those crucial pieces of Mourinho’s scheme, this time, the Frenchman seemed rugged in some phases of the tie. The player was desperately trying to hold the midfield compactly, but the lack of support from his partner visible. Replaced by Dele Alli in the 64th minute.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg: 4.5/10

After a bright beginning to the game, The Lilywhites No. 5 had not managed to provide assurance in the middle of the park. With another blunder in the penalty box, he allowed the hosts to kill them off.

Erik Lamela: 5.5/10

The Argentine international seems to be entrusted figure in his attacking approach, but on this occasion, he wasn’t able to penetrate the backline of The City. With six recoveries, the player was trying to pull the trigger. Came off in the 72nd minute.

Lucas Moura: 5/10

A not so great evening for the Brazilian international, as he was fumbling on numerous occasions. Didn’t create much chances, and hadn’t been precise on his task. He was subbed off in the 46th minute.

Son Heung-Min: 4.5/10

It has been quite a long time since the Korean wasn’t able to inspire an occasion for Spurs. In a place, where he had to dominate the proceedings, Son had a disappointing outcome.

Harry Kane: 5.5/10

The English forward did hit the crossbar with a fearsome strike, but the Spurs No. 10 hadn’t grabbed much of the chances. Manchester City’s dominance was indomitable, and due to that reason, Kane didn’t gain much of the opportunities which were needed to be presented.

SUBSTITUTES

Moussa Sissoko: 5/10

Came on in place of Lucas Moura. In spite of completing the most accurate passes of the game, The Spurs No. 17 didn’t offer much to haunt the hosts.

Dele Alli: 4/10

Emerged as the substitute in the 64th minute. The English forward didn’t provide the flare what was demanded, as his rustic scenes continue.

Gareth Bale: 5.5/10

The Spurs No. 9 seemed to be the only face to pose any kind of threat against Ederson. Looked sharp within that tenure.
