Youri Tielemans has revealed his desire to play in the Champions League amid speculation over a summer move away from Leicester City.
The chances of Youri Tielemans leaving Leicester City in the summer remain high, as the midfielder enters the final year of his deal at the King Power Stadium. There are plenty of clubs across the continent who would like to sign him up, although most of the interest comes from the Premier League.
Leicester are resigned to see Tielemans leave, and they could look to recoup a significant fee in the summer transfer window. The Belgian midfielder leaving on a free transfer in 2023 will come as a blow for the Foxes’ business model.
Tielemans has insisted he would like to play Champions League football, something that Leicester City cannot offer at the moment. The Foxes have tried to qualify for the premier tournament in the last two years but always came short. Their 12th position this term certainly rules them out for another season.
Goal.com quoted some of the comments made by Tielemans as he spoke to the media during the international break. The Leicester midfielder iterated his desire to play Champions League football, insisting he is ready for the next big career step.
“I don’t worry about [speculation],” Tielemans stated. “I want to get the most out of myself this season and finish as high as possible with the team. Of course, I want to play in the Champions League, just like any footballer. Am I ready for a European top club? I’m ready to get the best out of my career. We’ll see what happens next summer, or the summer after that,” he added.
Manchester United are reportedly interested in Tielemans as the Red Devils look to refresh their midfield options. Meanwhile, Arsenal were also keeping tabs on the Belgian international during the January window, although it is unclear whether Mikel Arteta would pursue a deal for the Belgian.

He will have a year left on his deal in June, tempting interested parties to look for a bargain deal for the Belgian. Leicester may look to recoup the best part of the £40 million they paid AS Monaco to sign him in 2019, although it is doubtful anyone might pay that much for the 24-year-old.
