West Ham United urged to sign Allan Saint-Maximin from Newcastle

West Ham United have been told to take a punt on Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin by former Liverpool star Stan Collymore.

Writing in his column in the print edition of the Mirror, as relayed by Hammers.news, former Premier League striker turned pundit, Stan Collymore, has called on West Ham United to make a move for Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

The 24-year-old joined Newcastle from French Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice in the summer of 2019 and has since developed into a key cog in Steve Bruce’s side. In 57 appearances for the Magpies, Saint-Maximin has managed to produce a return of seven goals and 12 assists, constantly impressing with his speed and natural wing-play.

Saint-Maximin’s capabilities have seen him get linked with clubs above Newcastle in the ladder, with Everton having reportedly shown an interest in his services recently, although nothing came of it.

Now, Collymore, writing in his column for the Mirror, has claimed that Saint-Maximin is the kind of a player that excites him and should be a player that clubs like West Ham United, Leeds should be looking to sign.

“I like Allan Saint-Maximin – he has pace, skills and attitude. If I were in charge of recruitment of an upwardly mobile club such as West Ham, Everton, Leeds or Aston Villa, I’d take a punt on him,” the former Liverpool striker wrote.

While West Ham have the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals as options for the wide areas, Saint-Maximin would perhaps give them with something more, with his physicality as well.

In addition, with the Hammers still unable to get a deal over the line for key transfer target Jesse Lingard, who has returned to Manchester United after his sensational loan spell during the second half of the last season, Saint-Maximin could be a potential alternative for the England international.

While the 24-year-old primarily plays on the flanks, he has been used in a secondary striker role in the past. His pace and athleticism could make him a good fit into David Moyes’ setup, adding a major attacking threat on the break. However, it remains to be seen if the Hammers do decide to heed Collymore’s advice and seek a move for the Newcastle star this late in the window.
