Joe Worrall has hinted at continuing at Nottingham Forest after securing promotion to the Premier League, dealing a blow to West Ham United’s hopes.

West Ham United have been planning an important transfer window, with David Moyes eyeing significant signings during this period. The club need some quality reinforcements in several areas, with the central defence considered a position in requirement of strengthening.

After a tough season with injuries to key stars, Moyes wants to build squad depth and wants quality players in central defence. Having missed out on a place in the top-four and the Europa League final, the Hammers are aware of the need to buy smartly this summer.

One of the names on Moyes’ shortlist has been Joe Worrall, who West Ham United have been chasing since March. While the player may have been receptive toward a move back then, things have changed dramatically for the defender.

Worrall played a crucial role for Forest, helping them achieve promotion to the Premier League by winning the Championship Playoffs where they beat Huddersfield Town at Wembley in the finals. That victory has elevated the club’s spirit as they dramatically return to the Premier League.

Worrall’s performances have attracted many other sides, including newly-promoted Fulham. Those clubs are in for disappointments, as the centre-back will likely remain at Forest for the foreseeable future.

The Evening Standard quoted the defender as Worrall hinted at a possible stay with Forest for their Premier League adventure. This will come as a blow to clubs, particularly West Ham United, who were keen on the centre-back.

Worrall said, “It’s been a tough football club at times, and all that has been repaid today, Forest are back in the Premier League. “I can’t believe I’m saying those words, but we’re over the moon. I’m looking forward to testing myself and being on Match of the Day.”

Worrall has two years left on his deal and could commit his future to the club if Nottingham Forest offer him a new deal. However, if the interest from other sides increases, the defender could look at options on the table.

West Ham United are unlikely to give up just yet as Moyes rates the 22-year-old highly. Whether that materialises into an approach from the Hammers remains to be seen. Worrall will have his shot at playing Premier League football in the upcoming season. Whether it is with Forest or any other team, will be answered in due course.
