Robin Gosens has admitted that he is flattered by the interest that he has garnered from Barcelona while adding that he will now discuss the move

Robin Gosens is a player whose name has started becoming more familiar over the past year or so. One of the rising stars in the German national side, the 27-year-old has impressed at club level with Atalanta. Surely enough that has translated into interest from some big clubs, including Barcelona, with the defender discussing the links in an interview with Sport1.

For a few years now, Atalanta have been regarded as the single-most watchable team in Europe thanks to an eye-catching style of play implemented by Gian Piero Gasperini. A big part of this team is Robin Gosens, who has provided a marauding presence from the left wing-back role.

His progress has translated at international level as well, with Gosens proving to be one of the better performers in a rather underwhelming UEFA Euro 2020 campaign for Germany. Naturally, Gosen’s exploits have been noticed, with Barcelona among the clubs that have shown an interest in the 27-year-old.

The Atalanta star has now discussed those links with Barcelona while speaking on Sport1’s podcast Meine Bayern-Woche. Gosens said, “We’ll have a look now. Already during the European Championship I told my dad that he should just leave me alone with the topic. Now I’m back home again, I’ll talk to him and see if something is on the program.”

“I’m not lying when I say that I don’t know anything about it at the moment. My entire focus was on the Euros. When something happens, let’s see.” When probed about the prospect of playing with Lionel Messi (if he renews his Barcelona deal), Gosens added, “That’s the way it is, you can definitely hold on to that.”

While the interest in Gosens is well and good, it must also be noted that Barcelona’s financial woes have been compounding further of late. And with Atalanta slapping a €35 million price tag on him, the German international might well have to wait to secure a switch to Camp Nou. An intriguing summer beckons Gosens, Atalanta and Barcelona.
