Leeds United director Victor Orta has claimed that the club are not pursuing the signing of Valencia and Portugal forward Goncalo Guedes.

Speaking on Radio MARCA, Leeds United sporting director Victor Orta has dismissed the speculations linking the Whites with a summer move for Valencia forward Goncalo Guedes.

Leeds United have been one of the most active Premier League clubs in the ongoing transfer window, having already brought in seven players, while an eighth player is on his way to Elland Road, with Joel Robles set to sign on a Bosman deal. However, the transfer business is still not done at the Yorkshire club, who are on the lookout for a new forward to compete with Patrick Bamford.

It has led to links with several strikers from within England and all over Europe, with recent reports claiming that Valencia ace Goncalo Guedes was on the radars of Leeds United. The versatile Portuguese forward, who can play anywhere across the frontline, has been with Los Che since 2017, when he arrived from Paris Saint-Germain.

However, Guedes’s spell at the Mestalla has been far from a roaring success as he has netted just 36 goals in 177 games so far. Despite that, the 25-year-old is a regular for the Portuguese national team. However, in spite of the speculation in the media, Victor Orta has now clarified that Leeds United have no interest in the forward.

“The thing about Guedes at Leeds is pure clickbait. I have never spoken with Guedes, nor with his agent nor with Valencia on this subject. There is nothing at all,” Orta said.

The Whites’ transfer chief also insisted that the squad was 95% complete, insisting that the club had spent what they had received from player sales, with Leeds seeing two top players in the form of Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips leave this summer. “We have invested the same as we have sold, although it is true that we have signed seven players and we have sold two stars,” he added.

So, as things stand, Leeds United have no interest in signing Guedes, who looks set to continue at Valencia. But Jesse Marsch’s side will likely recruit at least one new striker before the transfer window closes.
