Former AS Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev has revealed that joining Real Madrid is a childhood dream for Kylian Mbappe.

In an interview with French publication Le Parisien, as quoted by Spanish outlet AS, Vadim Vasilyev has suggested that joining Real Madrid is a childhood dream for Kylian Mbappe. The former AS Monaco vice-president also asserted that it was never a mystery that the Frenchman is keen on joining Real Madrid.

Vadim Vasilyev spent six illustrious years with AS Monaco, wherein he gained a reputation of smartly manoeuvring through the transfer market. The 56-year-old started as an advisor to club president Dmitry Rybolovlev in January 2013 before becoming the vice president a few months later.

During his tenure at AS Monaco, Vasilyev also oversaw the rise of Kylian Mbappe, who took Europe by storm in the 2016/17 season, when he broke into the first-team setup at Stade Louis II. After a stunning campaign wherein he helped deliver the Ligue 1 title ahead of Paris Saint-Germain, the Frenchman joined PSG and has gone from strength to strength at Parc des Princes.

The 23-year-old has a stunning record of 158 goals and 78 assists in 208 appearances. But Mbappe is in the final six months of his contract with PSG and is likely to leave the French club as a free agent. And his next destination will likely be Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants have been hot on Mbappe’s trail for a long time, and widespread reports claim that his Bosman move to the Santiago Bernabeu could be officiated soon. And now, Vasilyev has revealed that joining Real Madrid is a childhood dream for Mbappe.

“It was never a mystery that Real Madrid is the club of his childhood dreams. There will be people for and others against his signing for Madrid, but in any case, he will make the right choice in full agreement with his parents, who manage his career in an exemplary manner. Kylian makes the difference in every game.”

Vasilyev then continued praising Mbappe while suggesting how PSG might be able to retain the services of the Real Madrid target, “He still has room for improvement and will go all the way to the top. I would put him at the heart of the project by making him understand its full importance.”

Despite repeated attempts by PSG, Mbappe has shown no desire to extend his stay at Parc des Princes. And with a few months left for his PSG deal to run out, Mbappe looks primed to join Real Madrid as a free agent in the summer transfer window.
