23-year-old Brazilian midfielder Matheus Fernandes has slammed Barcelona for the manner of his release, confirming that he will sue the Catalan club.

In an interview with Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, Matheus Fernandes has opened up about his exit from Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The 23-year-old Brazilian midfielder has blasted the Blaugrana for the manner of his release while also confirming that he will sue the club.

Matheus Fernandes joined Barcelona from Palmeiras last summer, in what was a dream move for the Brazilian midfielder. However, the dream soon turned into a nightmare, with the 23-year-old barely making it to matchday squads let alone feature regularly in any capacity for the Catalan club.

In fact, Fernandes managed just the solitary appearance for Barcelona, tallying a game-time of a grand total of 17 minutes in the process. And after just one season at Camp Nou, Barcelona chose to release him this summer by terminating his contract last month.

Post his release from Barcelona, Fernandes has returned to Palmeiras and he has finally opened up and given his account over his departure from Camp Nou. Speaking to Globo Esporte, the 23-year-old lambasted Barcelona’s unprofessional treatment while confirming that he will be suing the club.

“I didn’t know, and when I received it I didn’t believe (about the termination). I was at home, I was going out with my wife, I received a message from the club staff asking if I had the same e-mail address, I confirmed it and then I received it. I didn’t understand, I sent it to my manager and lawyer. They said it was my termination. I said: “ah, they lied that they did that”. Some time passed and I was in the press. No conversation, nothing, they didn’t even call me to say hi and bye.”

I don’t know what the board did, what happened to Barcelona. I don’t know, it’s taking a very strange turn. Fired one guy over the phone, then fired another over email. It costs nothing, call to talk. No agreement? It’s like that, we don’t count on you. In any job you can say that you don’t have it. It has to be talked about. But it’s not a call and it’s gone, an email and it’s gone. I think it’s very unprofessional.”

“It’s happening [suing Barcelona]. They didn’t say anything to me. They just said goodbye and bye. It was wrong, it was ugly on the part of the club. I don’t even know how it is, I leave it up to my lawyers. Let’s see, I still don’t know what’s going on in this delicate part. We don’t want it, but…”

Judging by the comments, it is clear that the manner of his exit has left a sour taste in Fernandes’ mouth. The events following the departure have evidently been ugly and the saga has apparently not ended just yet, with the 23-year-old set to sue Barcelona. Meanwhile, Barcelona are in the market for a midfielder, with Renato Sanches among those linked with the Blaugrana.
