AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham has opened up on a potential return to England following interest from London duo Arsenal and Chelsea.

As quoted by Goal, AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham has opened up on a potential return to the Premier League amidst interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.

The 24-year-old came through the ranks at Stamford Bridge, establishing himself as a regular for Chelsea under Frank Lampard in the 2019/20 season. He ended the campaign as the club’s top scorer with 18 goals across all competitions.

However, the promise fizzled out as he struggled to achieve similar numbers in 2020/21 and also fell down the pecking order at Chelsea following Thomas Tuchel’s appointment. Abraham eventually departed Stamford Bridge last summer in search of pastures new, joining Italian giants AS Roma.

It proved to be an inspired decision as the 24-year-old appears to have rediscovered his goalscoring touch and has thrived under former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho. With 23 goals in 41 appearances this season, Abraham has once again put his name out as a striker to watch out for.

As a result, Chelsea and Arsenal have shown interest in securing his services. The former can exercise a buyback option in 2023, while Arsenal are in the market for a new number nine. Abraham, for his part, believes such interest is a testament to the work he is putting in and makes him feel good.

“When I see reports linking me with other clubs it makes me feel good, it makes you feel like you’re doing something right. It’s a nice feeling seeing your name all over newspapers.”

While he is enjoying life in Italy at the moment, the Englishman appears to harbour dreams of a triumphant return to England. He remains hopeful of making a name for himself in his home country, and as long as he continues to perform, that might happen.

“Of course I grew up in England, I’m a London boy. So maybe one day I’ll be back in the Premier League to make noise there.”

Abraham has the best years of his career ahead of him and can still carve a name for himself in England’s top tier. Moving to Serie A was not without its risks, but the 24-year-old, to his credit, has thrived in Italy.

He will do well to spend a season or two more at Roma to further polish his game before seeking to return to England. The Premier League is unforgiving, and not many will get a second chance to prove their worth. The onus will be on Abraham to prove his detractors wrong should a second chance arrive, either with Arsenal or Chelsea.
