Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has offered a positive update on the future of Paul Pogba amid speculation linking him with a move away from Old Trafford.

Speaking to the Manchester United media, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given an update on Paul Pogba’s current situation at Old Trafford. The Manchester United boss has acknowledged speculation over a potential exit but insists the midfielder is looking forward to the new season more than anything else.

Solskjaer has also confirmed ongoing talks between Manchester United and Pogba’s representatives over his contract, suggesting the club is indeed determined to keep hold of the Frenchman. His current deal with Manchester United expires at the end of next season.

Pogba is currently enjoying his vacation after the end of France’s UEFA Euro 2020 campaign. He is expected to return to the Manchester United camp soon, but that has not stopped various outlets from linking him to a move away from Old Trafford this summer. The midfielder was in inspiring form for Les Bleus in the European Championship, while his precarious contract situation has made him an appealing target for top clubs across Europe.

One of the clubs mainly in contention to sign Paul Pogba is Real Madrid. With over 200 competitive appearances for Manchester United, the Frenchman has emerged as an excellent  long-term replacement for the ageing Luka Modric, as well as Toni Kroos.

However, Solskjaer insists Pogba is not distracted by such rumours. “There’s always speculation about Paul and clubs being interested, and we’ve seen Paul at his best,” said the Norwegian, speaking to the media.

“Paul knows what we feel about it, and I’ve enjoyed my time working with him, and hopefully, we can work together. The talks between the club and Paul’s representatives, I’m not in the detail of every single one of them. I’ve got nothing to say about that. Let’s see what happens.”

Continuing on the topic, the Manchester United boss said, “The talks are ongoing between Paul’s representatives and the club representatives. All the dialogue I’ve had with Paul is he’s looking forward to the season”.

It remains unclear as to how much talks have progressed regarding a potential contract extension. But Pogba’s extended stay at Old Trafford is set to serve as a major positive for Manchester United, who are hoping to keep hold of him for the long-term following his performances in Euro 2020.

Unfortunately, the Manchester United fans may not be able to see him back in action just yet. He is still on vacation, with Solskjaer once again likely to play with a bunch of young players in the upcoming Wednesday friendly against Brentford.
