Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has given his seal of approval to the club’s latest signing, Julian Alvarez, heaping praise on his compatriot.

As quoted by All About Argentina, Sergio Aguero has had his say on Manchester City’s acquisition of Julian Alvarez. The Manchester City legend has hailed the club’s decision to snap up his compatriot, claiming that he likes the striker’s qualities.

Manchester City hardly enter the market without reason. While their struggles to solve their full-back woes have been ridiculed for a long time, the Citizens are renowned for being ruthless in transfer windows in pursuing their key targets.

Such an outlook has helped Manchester City create a formidable creative and attacking unit that consists of Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez. But they have struggled recently to secure the services of a top-quality striker.

As Sergio Aguero’s decline in stature became apparent, Manchester City needed to enter the market for world-class centre-forward. The reigning Premier League champions did try to sign Harry Kane last summer, but Tottenham Hotspur stood firm and succeeded in keeping hold of the England captain.

While the absence of a striker has not worked against Manchester City this season, having such an option at his disposal will only help Pep Guardiola in the long run, especially considering he has been reluctant to use Gabriel Jesus through the middle.

The Citizens finally succeeded on that front by snapping up Julian Alvarez from River Plate in the January transfer window. And now, Sergio Aguero has had his say on Manchester City’s acquisition of the Argentine international.

“I get along very well with him (Alvarez),” said Aguero. “He always asked me things and I, as a striker, told him about my experience. I like it, he is a very good player. He (Alvarez) is very good, really good. I like him, we have to see in what position they (Manchester City) are going to use him. I do not know if he is going to play as a nine; for me, he is a player who has to play more freely, he is restless.”

Aguero’s glowing assessment of Alvarez is certainly good news for Manchester City, who have managed to acquire a striker without having to pay a lot of money. Whether Alvarez will be able to fill the void left by his compatriot’s departure last summer will be interesting to see.
