Newest Chelsea signing Saul Niguez has voiced his delight over his deadline day move to Stamford Bridge.

Saul Niguez has recently commented on his move to Chelsea, claiming he is pleased to join the club and could not turn down the opportunity to play for the Blues. He has also praised his parent club Atletico Madrid but insists he is ready for the new challenge that awaits.

A product of the Atleti youth academy, Saul joined Chelsea on deadline day, in a season-long loan deal. It was a massive coup for the Blues, who had earlier missed out on the capture of Jules Kounde.

The midfielder was Chelsea’s only third major signing of the summer after Romelu Lukaku was brought back to Stamford Bridge for a hefty fee. And speaking to the media after the move, Saul showered praises to the Premier League giants for offering him an opportunity to revive his career after progress was derailed at Atleti.

“I’m really looking forward to training and, most importantly, to start working with my coach,” he said, as quoted by Tribal Football. “I’ve spent 15 years at Atletico Madrid, it’s my home. And then, when the opportunity to join Chelsea came up, I couldn’t turn it down,” he added.

Saul, who has 340 competitive appearances for Los Colchoneros and is a one-time Champions League finalist, has had a difficult couple of years. His development has stagnated due to multiple injuries and fitness issues coupled with the emergence of Marcos Llorente.

But the 26-year-old remains focused on getting back on track and has stated that he is excited about the opportunity to play in the Premier League.

“The last day of the transfer window was crazy but in the end I could come here, as we all were hoping, so I have to seize this chance. Since I was a child, I always had two goals – to make history at Atletico Madrid and to play in the Premier League, not only because of the league itself but also for its culture and the language,” said the midfielder.

Saul is currently in London to acclimatize himself to the said culture and language and is expected to be in the squad when Chelsea host Aston Villa after the international break.
