Belgium head coach Roberto Martinez has lauded Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard, claiming that he is getting back to his best, both mentally and physically.

During a press conference, as quoted by football.london, Roberto Martinez has spoken up about Eden Hazard and his progress in the recently concluded international break. The Belgium head coach has claimed that the Real Madrid forward is getting back to his best on every level.

Eden Hazard joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in the summer of 2019, in what was a dream move for the Belgian forward. After an illustrious seven-year stint with the Blues, that saw Hazard win just about every trophy, all while being the team’s talisman, especially in the final years.

However, the move to Real Madrid has not panned out as envisioned for Hazard, who has been severely hampered by fitness issues over the last two years. As a result, the 30-year-old has spent more time on the sidelines than on the pitch, while being unable to make an impact as well as he would have liked.

The onset of the 2021/22 season, though, has brought with it some hope that Hazard might just be slowly getting back to his best. The player himself has spoken up about his desire to make his mark for Real Madrid. And now, Roberto Martinez has hailed Hazard for his mental fortitude and physical improvement.

Speaking to reporters, the Belgium head coach said, “Eden is ready to make a real impact in the coming weeks and months. Against the Czech Republic he broke all the past stats – it was the best Eden I’ve seen since November 2019.”

“The fact that Eden wanted to come here, that he wanted to travel this far, knowing he couldn’t play 90 minutes, shows that Eden is back on every level. He also wanted to be our captain and leader against Belarus. Well, that proves Eden is mentally ready.”

Such praise ought to fill Hazard in with a lot of confidence, especially at a time when he needs to show that he still has a lot to offer. What now remains to be seen is if Hazard indeed gets back to his very best in the coming weeks and months, which would then give Real Madrid a real boost ahead of a big 2021/22 season.
