Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes that Daniel James has what it takes to shine at Leeds United under Marcelo Bielsa this summer.

Speaking to the YouTube channel FIVE, as cited by Manchester Evening News, Rio Ferdinand has offered his prediction for Daniel James’ fortunes at Leeds United. He believes that the youngster has what it takes to shine at his new club and his style of play could suit the tactical philosophy of Marcelo Bielsa.

James made the headlines on deadline day by joining Leeds from arch-rivals Manchester United. The Whites had been looking at him for quite some time and were tracking him ever since his rise to prominence at Swansea City.

James’ departure from Manchester United was ultimately sanctioned after the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, whose addition to the team has crippled the prospects of multiple first-team stars including Donny van de Beek. And while the transfer fee involving James has not made most Leeds United fans happy, Rio Ferdinand certainly thinks that the investment will be worth it for the Yorkshire giants.

The former Manchester United defender, who had himself made headlines back in his day by joining from Leeds United, stated, “They’ve been on him for ages, they’ve wanted this boy for time.”

Ferdinand went on to suggest that James, who is usually advertised as an explosive winger who is blessed with raw pace, could be the ideal component in Bielsa’s more flexible and aggressive setup.

“The kid, in that team, will be getting the ball and getting forward quick, and that suits his game. When you have to break down two banks of four like Manchester United that doesn’t suit James’ game, he likes space. But yes, Leeds United for Dan James will be a fantastic move for both parties,” the Manchester United legend added

The Welshman departed Old Trafford after making 74 competitive appearances for Manchester United. But he never really managed to live up to the expectations, forcing the club to invest in Jadon Sancho earlier this summer, before eventually bringing back prodigal son Ronaldo from Juventus.

Only time will tell whether James can make a big impact at Leeds United. For now, the player himself is delighted with the switch to Elland Road while Manchester United would not be fretting his departure all that much following Ronaldo’s big return.
