Rio Ferdinand has hailed the ‘impeccable’ Edouard Mendy, naming him as one the best three goalkeepers among the current lot in the Premier League.

Edouard Mendy has enjoyed a fairytale period over the past eighteen months. After all the difficulties he faced in his career before making it to the big stage, the Senegal international has become an integral part of this Chelsea side and outperformed some of the best goalkeepers in the game.

His hard work and performances have always attracted praise from pundits, managers and fellow players. Thomas Tuchel has been full of praise for his No. 1, who has helped the Chelsea team many times during the last eighteen months after arriving from Rennes.

After winning the Champions League with Chelsea last season, the Senegal international added another title to his CV as Senegal beat Egypt to win the African Cup of Nations for the first time in their history. While he is already regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in world football right now, Mendy continues to put on important performances for Chelsea and his national team.

It is clear he is one of the top professionals in his position, which is why his exclusion from the Ballon d’Or nominations had left people baffled. He could well make it in 2022 if he continues performing at this level and helps Chelsea achieve more silverware this term.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, speaking on his YouTube Channel FIVE, has hailed the Senegal international for his displays since joining Chelsea. The pundit suggested Mendy is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, along with Ederson Moraes and David De Gea.

Ferdinand commented, “If I was picking a goalkeeper right now in the world, I think my top three keepers would be – and maybe people say you’re biased because of the Premier League – but it would be Mendy, Ederson, and on form right now De Gea. Mendy stands out for me, especially in this last year, he’s been impeccable.”

With Chelsea now scheduled to meet Al Hilal in the Club World Cup on Wednesday, it’s unlikely Mendy will make the squad following his exploits with Senegal at the AFCON. The keeper should be back in action for the Blues when they meet Crystal Palace on 19th February.

While he was the standout goalkeeper in the continental tournament in Africa, it remains to be seen if Mendy gets the respect and inclusion in the Ballon d’Or nominees list for 2022.
