Rio Ferdinand has hailed Chelsea’s confidence after a bright start to the season, suggesting they might have an advantage over their rivals.

Since the season kicked off, Chelsea has been one of the consistent performers, sitting joint top of the Premier League table. Thomas Tuchel has overseen three wins out of four games, while their draw against Liverpool was considered a superb achievement considering the situation they were in.

Meanwhile, they began their Champions League campaign on a winning note, narrowly surpassing past Zenit. Their work in the transfer window to strengthen the squad made them challengers on all fronts. However, many difficult challenges lay ahead for Chelsea this season, which they are expected to challenge with all guns blazing.

Last season, Tuchel guided them to a Champions League triumph beating Manchester City in the Final. Since then, Chelsea have shown the confidence to overcome any situation presented to them. The Blues are firmly one of the favourites for the domestic and European crowns this season, and Rio Ferdinand has praised their approach.

The former Manchester United defender has stated they are proving a difficult side for opponents to beat. He said Chelsea are “answering questions at every single point” with Tuchel having made them seriously difficult to beat – which led to their Champions League triumph in May.”

He went on to praise Tuchel and his charges for the confidence shown on the pitch. The Daily Star posted a few quotes from Ferdinand where he spoke at length about Chelsea.

Ferdinand continued, “They’re a big strong team, and they have the know-how now. The experience of winning the Champions League gives you supreme confidence. When you watch every single situation, they can go a goal down, down to 10 men – like they did at Anfield – go a goal up and see a game out. They deal with every situation that’s coming round the corner now.”

“There’s a confidence, an assuredness, a calmness when they’re doing it. That for other teams watching on they’ll be thinking, ‘woah, these guys are serious.’ You’re not seeing many chinks in their armour at the moment, and there will be ups and downs in this league, that happens. But at the moment, they’re answering every question at the door.”

Up next for Chelsea will be a stern test as they take on Tottenham in the Premier League.
