Real Madrid won their first La Liga title since 2012 thanks to a final-day victory at Malaga owing to goals scored by Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.

Cristiano Ronaldo registered a goal within the first five minutes to settle the nerves, latching onto Isco’s through ball to move past Carlos Kameni and tap into an empty net. Karim Benzema added their second goal after the break after Kameni parried Sergio Ramos’ shot.

Real, who only needed a point to edge past defending champions Barcelona, now face Juventus in the Champions League final looking to complete a double.

The result means Zinedine Zidane, in his first full season as Real boss, has become the first manager to lead Madrid to the Spanish league title since Jose Mourinho did five years ago.

If they also beat Juventus in Cardiff, they will become the first team to successfully defend the Champions League – since Zidane’s men won the tournament six months after he took charge last summer.

Real Madrid’s favourite Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was all over Twitter last night as fans were ecstatic after he scored a goal.

Real Madrid truly deserved to pick up the trophy this season after scintillating performances on an over-all basis. Zinedine Zidane was the man of the hour for sculpting the La Liga champions into the team that they are today.

The performances of Sergio Ramos and Isco were also hailed as both players were instrumental in Real Madrid’s success this season. Los Blancos were brilliant as a team but these two players stood out on all occasions.
