Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos is keen on securing a return to his former club Real Betis, claims Los Verdiblancos’ director Antonio Cordon.

Speaking in an interview with ElDesmarque Real Betis sporting director Antonio Cordon has claimed that Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos is intent on securing a move back to Los Verdiblancos in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Ceballos came through the youth ranks at Real Betis and went on to make 105 first-team appearances, establishing himself as one of the most promising young midfielders in Spain. Real Madrid came calling in 2017, and the 25-year-old jumped at the chance of joining the Spanish capital club.

However, the presence of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro meant that Ceballos struggled for game-time in his first two years at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Spanish international spent two years away on loan at Arsenal between 2019 and 2021. Upon his return last summer, the midfielder looked primed for an exit, but an injury during the Tokyo Olympic Games ended any hopes of a transfer.

Ceballos returned to full fitness in the second half of the campaign and featured 18 times under Carlo Ancelotti. While most of those appearances were cameos off the bench, the 25-year-old made a good impression, even leading to speculations that Real Madrid might consider keeping him at the club beyond the season.

At the same time, though, rumours of a return to Real Betis have been doing the rounds for quite some time now. And, now, Los Verdiblancos director Antonio Cordon has claimed that Ceballos is dying to come back to Real Betis in the summer but admitted that the decision rests with Real Madrid.

“The other day they crossed paths because I ran into him at the Bernabeu. So we crossed paths and greeted each other. This is like everything, we know that he is dying to come to Betis. His attachment to this city, to these fans and to this The club is huge… but he is a Real Madrid player, you can’t say more,” Cordon said.

With Real Madrid pushing to sign Aurelien Tchouameni, they might be willing to open the doors for Ceballos to leave in the summer. Whether the 25-year-old ends up securing a return to his boyhood club remains to be seen.
