Real Madrid have not approached OGC Nice with regards to a move for centre-forward Amine Gouiri, according to the Ligue 1 club’s president Jean-Pierre Rivere.

OGC Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere has revealed that Real Madrid have made no official approach for French striker Amine Gouiri. The 22-year-old has been believed to be on Los Blancos’ transfer radar, amid their links with a few other attackers across Europe.

Real Madrid seemed destined to sign Kylian Mbappe from Real Madrid, but Paris Saint-Germain spoiled their party at the last minute, convincing the Frenchman to sign a new contract with the Ligue 1 club. This has left the reigning La Liga champions without an out-and-out second-choice forward to replace Karim Benzema.

Gouiri has been rumoured to be on their agenda, with some reports claiming the Real Madrid hierarchy had even made an enquiry for the French striker. However, those reports have been put to rest by OGC Nice President Jean-Pierre Rivere.

He seemed surprised when asked about Real Madrid’s links with Gouiri, claiming these were just rumours. Rivere also clarified that the defending Spanish champions have made no contact with the Ligue 1 side over a possible summer transfer for the 22-year-old striker.

“Real Madrid want Gouiri? I heard these rumors just like you did. But they did not come to our office, I had no contacts with Real Madrid for Gouiri,” the Ligue 1 club’s president told Prime Video.

A Lyon youth product, Gouiri moved to across France by joining OGC Nice in the 2020 summer transfer window and has been quite prolific in front of goal since then. The French striker has scored 28 goals for the Ligue 1 side across all competitions in 85 matches while also providing 18 assists on top of it.

In the 2021/22 season, he scored ten times and assisted nine goals in Ligue 1, which put quite a few European giants on alert, including Real Madrid. However, in the wake of the latest comments from OGC Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere, it seems clear that Gouiri will stay put at the French club for at least another season if there is no last-minute change in Real Madrid’s plans.
