Raphael Varane has recently talked about his relationship with Paul Pogba, Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire.

During an interview with TV2, Raphael Varane has opened up about his relationship with some of the current Manchester United star including Harry Maguire, Paul Pogba and Cristiano Ronaldo while praising the coach and his new club.

Varane made headlines this summer after leaving Real Madrid in favour of a move to Manchester United. He was not the only marquee player to join the Red Devils in the summer either, with the club also managing to acquire the services of Jadon Sancho before completing a sensational return for Cristiano Ronaldo.

In the recent interview, Varane has talked about the impact of Paul Pogba behind his decision to arrive at Old Trafford. “He did not have to convince me that I should travel here, but I have talked to him about the club to find out what it is like to be here from day to day. It was important for me to hear his opinions and thoughts about the club, the team and their ambitions,” says Varane.

The centre-back is a teammate of Pogba in the French national team and the duo won the FIFA World Cup together in 2018. Varane now hopes that Pogba, whose contract expires at the end of the season, remains at Old Trafford for a foreseeable amid reports linking with a move to Santiago Bernabeu.

“It is of course his decision, but of course I hope he stays here for a long time. He is a fantastic player, so I undoubtedly hope that he stays,” said the Frenchman.

Aside from Pogba, Varane was asked about his new defensive partner in Harry Maguire. The centre-back only had kind words for the Englishman, hailing his ability on the pitch before offer more insight on how he is trying to adapt alongside the former Leicester City starlet.

“He is a top player. On the field, we are still working to get to know each other better. We try to talk to each other so that we can understand each other even better, and in that way coordinate our movements and our positioning. This applies not only to me and Harry but to the entire defence,” Varane explains

Varane also talked about his former Real Madrid teammate Ronaldo. “He is an exceptional football player and I am very happy that he came here. He’s nice to have in the closet. He is always positive and he always has a joke in store.”

“Despite his age, he is better than he has ever been and due to his work ethic and his competitive instinct, I still think he has many years ahead of him. It is very nice to have him on the team because you know that he will score many goals, so it is better to have him with you than against him,” said the 28-year-old.

Varane and Ronaldo enjoyed stellar success together at Real Madrid, winning four Champions League titles, two Spanish league titles and the Copa Del Rey. It now remains to be seen whether the duo can replicate their success at Manchester United in the next few years.
