Rangers starlet Nathan Patterson will not hesitate to leave the club if Manchester United come calling for him, claims Frank McAvennie.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic and West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie has tipped Rangers right-back, Nathan Patterson, to join Premier League giants Manchester United.

Patterson came through the youth ranks at Rangers and broke into the first-team last season. While he has not become a regular in the side, the 19-year-old has shown a lot of promise in his fledgeling career, enough for him to attract the interest of clubs down south from England.

Indeed, Everton had been linked with a move for Patterson back in the summer. And more recently, Manchester United have emerged as a suitor for the young right-back, who has already made three appearances for the Scotland national team.

Now, McAvennie has claimed that if a club of Manchester United’s stature comes calling for Patterson, he would not have a second thought about making the jump to Old Trafford.

“There is absolutely no chance of Rangers keeping him if Man Utd come in,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild. We can talk about him going anywhere. No disrespect to Rangers but he will not hang around. If that report is right and Man Utd are seriously looking at Patterson, talk about your head being turned.

“There is no one bigger. He won’t start there but he’s so highly rated. Rangers can’t keep him, no way. Maybe Rangers could sell him and loan him back. His opportunities will be limited with Tavernier there. But they will also be limited at Old Trafford. The thought of playing with Ronaldo will be too much for him to turn down.”

Manchester United have two right-backs in their squad currently in the form of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot. The former has made a scratchy start to the new season while the latter might not be a part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans at Old Trafford. As a result, the Red Devils are eyeing a right-back in January, with Patterson an option being considered.

Apart from the Rangers prodigy, Max Aarons of Norwich City is also on the Red Devils’ radars. So, it will be interesting to see who they decide to go after come January.
