Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has shed light on his thoughts about Barcelona recruiting Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich this summer.

There is still plenty of time left in the transfer window, but Barcelona have already completed one of the biggest deals of the summer, by signing Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.

The transfer was not easy and was long drawn out as the German champions were reluctant to let go of their ace goalscorer despite Lewandowski making it abundantly clear that he wanted out. Bayern Munich rejected three bids from Barcelona for the 33-year-old before eventually giving in.

Barcelona will shell out a sum of €45 million fixed and another €5 million in add-ons for the Poland captain’s services. Lewandowski’s arrival means he will likely be the undisputed No. 9 for the Catalan giants, which casts doubts over the amount of game-time Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang might receive this season.

Signed only in January, the Gabonese ace had done well in the second half of the season but will now have to step back and play second-fiddle to his former Borussia Dortmund teammate. Despite that, Aubameyang insisted that he was very happy to be reunited with Lewandowski and claimed that the two could help Barcelona succeed.

Speaking to ESPN (h/t Metro), Aubameyang said: “I was really excited because I know him well we played together at Dortmund and had some nice times over there. I was just happy and when this was official we are reunited, and we had some fun words about the past, but I’m really happy because this is how Barcelona will compete, with great strikers, and that’s what this club is all about.

“Obviously I think we have more experience, we can maybe do better than the past in Dortmund I am sure about that. Personally, I will try to give my best and I’m sure he will do it. We will hope we have better numbers than in the past.”

Aubameyang also hinted that there is a possibility that he and Lewandowski could play together, with manager Xavi speaking to him about such a scenario. “Yes a little bit. He was talking to all of us that we have to compete this year to win titles. Of course when you talk about trophies we need a competitive team,” Aubameyang said.

Lewandowski made his unofficial debut for Barcelona in their pre-season friendly against Real Madrid in Las Vegas. The Catalans won the contest 1-0 thanks to a first-half goal from Raphinha.
