Pep Guardiola has set the record straight and denied any interest in Dani Olmo as Manchester City get ready to face RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

Dani Olmo never made it at Barcelona and discovered the essence of his career at Dinamo Zagreb and RB Leipzig. In the last couple of seasons, the 23-year-old Spanish international has become a key part of the Bundesliga side. Being a consistent performer for club and country has naturally attracted the attention of some big clubs who are considering a move for the attacker.

Barcelona are said to be interested in re-signing Olmo whenever the next opportunity arises. The Spaniard, formerly a youth team player at the Catalan side, could be interested in a move back, but the club’s finances could make the transfer a tricky affair.

Manchester United were also reportedly interested, with stories suggesting the club might have initiated contacts over a move. The links with Premier League clubs have been forthcoming, and a move to Old Trafford could be on the cards due to Ralf Rangnick’s previous ties with RB Leipzig.

It was recently reported that Olmo might be interested in joining Manchester City, and the Citizens have been linked with a move. Pep Guardiola has several attackers in his squad at the Etihad, and he instead needs to sign a striker, which is why the reported interest in Olmo has been bizarre.

Ahead of Manchester City’s clash with RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League, the media asked Guardiola questions over the links with Olmo. The manager set the record straight, denying any interest, although he praised the 23-year-old for his qualities. Some of his comments were quoted on Sport.

Guardiola said, “We are not interested in Dani Olmo. That being said, I have to say that he is an exceptional footballer. Very good. I admire that he had the courage to leave Barcelona and go to Croatia to develop his talent, and now he is playing in Leipzig.”

A future move might still be on the cards despite Guardiola’s denial if the club feel the 23-year-old attacker qualifies as a target. For now, it looks like Olmo is not headed anywhere this winter, with Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig set to keep hold of the Spanish international.
