Barcelona prodigy Pedri has opened up about facing rejection from Real Madrid, insisting he is where he wants to be and happy at Camp Nou.

In an interview with Spanish outlet COPE, Pedri spoke about various topics, including facing rejection from Real Madrid before joining Barcelona. The Spanish prodigy iterated he did not like getting dismissed but insisted he is where he wants to be and happy at Barcelona.

Pedri is one of the most promising young midfielders in Europe, having already produced several world-class performances since formally moving to Barcelona ahead of the 2020/21 season. The 19-year-old is also a full-fledged Spanish international, becoming a key figure for club and country.

To date, the teenage prodigy has made 70 appearances for Barcelona, chipping in with seven goals and seven assists. But Pedri could just as well have joined Real Madrid instead of moving to Barcelona two years ago.

In an interview with COPE, the Spanish wonderkid recounted his experience of training at Real Madrid and opened up about being rejected by Los Blancos. And Pedri revealed that he did not like facing rejection from Real Madrid before adding that he is happy at Barcelona, which is where he wants to be now.

Pedri said, “I went there [to Real Madrid] and the first few days I couldn’t train because there was snow on the pitches. I trained three days. One I think they were playing, and they took me down with the B team to train, and in the end they told me that I didn’t have the level to be there and that they were going to leave me to keep looking.”

“At first, you don’t like being rejected anywhere, but then it motivates you to think that if they didn’t want you, now you’re going to work hard so that something else can come in the future. Now I’m where I want to be [at Barcelona]. I have never met the person who said no to me. I don’t remember who he is. I would tell him that now I am enjoying myself at Barcelona.”

Pedri has adapted to life at Barcelona seamlessly, taking no time to establish himself as a key figure for the Blaugrana. The 19-year-old recently starred in the 4-0 win over Real Madrid, and he must have relished playing his part in the hammering after facing rejection from the Merengues a few years ago.
